  1. I agree! I have the Revell 1/32 Tonka GR.1 in my stash too. As an ex-Tornado ground crew I would probably do mine in my old squadron scheme, 17 Sqn, RAF Bruggen. So yes, definately do it! It would be pretty cool..... Chris.
  2. Alclad also do their own range of clear coats - or 'Klear Kote' as they say it. I have a bottle of the Light Sheen but not used it yet so cannot comment on the performance. http://alclad2.com/finishes/aqua-klears/
  3. Erm, only slightly late, which isn't bad for me!....but HAPPY BIRTHDAY Martin! I must say, you don't look a day over erm, 20....something....ish....OK, maybe 30... Cheers Mate, Chris.
  4. Thank you Guys. I have thought about resin casting in the past but I wouldn't have a clue how. I should get on YouTube and learn how! Unfortunately the rockets are now painted.....sorry Guys..! Also got the props & spinners finished. Still got to do the weathering on the prop blades though. Going to attempt to finish off the rocket heads tonight with the red and white bands. This may induce a number of four letter words though...... Cheers folks. Almost there with this one! Chris.
  5. Here's another option: http://www.hobbydecal.com/detail.cgi?number=st32002v1 I've used Hobbydecal dry transfers in the past and found them to be superb. Chris.
  6. Lovely Spit Simon, regardless of the scale, she's a beauty! Chris.
  7. These are paper?! They look superb! How are the tracks done? Oh, and as Demon said, I too did get a little distracted by the adverts! Chris.
  8. Great news Harv! Good to see you are back and fighting fit! Chris.
  9. Hi Guys, Not much of an update, more of a plea for help/advice. I am working on the rockets at the moment and getting close to the paint stage, check out below. I decided to replace the body tubes with ally tube as the kit ones were a right pig to sand 'round'. I also reshaped the nose cones as they were a little too pointed: The question is, looking at the photo below, I need to spray the red and white bands around the nose cones. Any ideas on how to do this easily? I have to do it on 8 rockets, all identical!! Thanks Guys. Any help/advice greatly appreciated... Chris.
  10. I tend to use lint free cloths around the spray bench. I found them quite cheap to buy from a DIY store, in the paint supplies area. I also sometimes get hold of aircraft canopy polishing cloths (for real aircraft!) from my friendly Air Force mates. These are fantastic and great if you can get hold of them. Normal q-tips do shed fibres a lot. I found that Tamiya do a range that don't and are specifically designed for modelling. I've tried these Tamiya ones and found them pretty good, however they will remove paint if rubbed too hard! The weave is far more compacted than normal q-tips. Worth a try though if you are careful. Chris.
  11. Thanks Guys, Matt, the copper pipework is the kit parts sprayed with Alcald Copper. I gave them a wash with Vallejo black wash to dull them down a bit, then brushed on dark brown pigment powders to dirty them up a little. Quite a good effect in the end as the raw Alclad is a pretty bright finish and looks way too clean for an engine bay!
  12. Hey People, Hope everyone's got a weekend of quality bench time ahead. It's holiday weekend here in the UK so I'm planning on staying put as the roads are already total chaos with folks trying to find some sun! Anyway, slight update. I have fitted the engine and finished off the wiring and pipework. Looks pretty good, happy with the result. What do you think? Next on the list: Wing pylons and rockets.... Thanks as always for looking, and enjoy your weekends! Chris.
  13. Evening Guys, Small update. I've been finishing off the motor and it's now ready to fit! Detailed the firewall a little: It's going to get fitted tonight, along with a few more pipes and wiring detail. Cheers guys, thanks for looking and for all the cool comments! Chris.
  14. Hey Guys, Bit of an update. Finished the weathering, got it as far as I want to go. I could have gone further on the undersides around the engines but I decided to keep it fairly subdued. Also fitted the ventral bay doors, along with their hydraulic jacks and flexible hoses. Everything unmasked, you can now see the pilot's DV window slid open (it survived the masking tape!!). Next task: detail the firewall and install the engine. Check out the pics, feedback always welcome.
  15. Hey Guys, Sorry about the lack of updates, things are a little slow at the bench at the moment. I have managed some time on this though, gave it an initial matt coat using Vallejo matt. After letting it cure for a day or two I gave it an overall muddy wash to tone down the brightness of the paint and make it look generally grubby, using Flory Models dark dirt wash. I prefer to use this wash on a matt surface as I can then scrub it into the paint and remove as much of the wash as I need to get the finish I'm happy with. I've also been at it with various powder colours. Only done the one wing upper surface so far to see if I like it or not. I think it turned out OK and I'm pretty happy with the result. I think this is as far as I will go weathering wise, don't want it to be too overdone. Anyway, here's a few pics of the wing I have done. What do you think? Actually, looking at that last photo, I'm not too sure about the light coloured wash on the black panels....hmmmm. Cheers Guys. Comments/feedback always welcome - good or bad! Chris.
  16. Found this in the stash today, it's been there for years. I really should put it together someday . It's solid resin and BIG! It probably weighs as much as the real thing.....
  17. Thanks for the cool comments Guys. Grant, I did do a WIP, over on LSP. It's been a while though and I have since moved the photos around on Photobucket so I think the links are all messed up. I should sort it out really. If anyone's interested, below is the link to my Photobucket album with all of the build pics: http://s1181.photobucket.com/user/alpine00/library/Spitfire%20Model%20Pics?sort=3&page=1 Thanks again! Chris.
  18. Hey Guys, It was ModelKraft 2013 today, the annual show hosted by IPMS Milton Keynes. I attended with my club, IPMS Swindon, and this is always a superb show and one of the highlights of the year. I decided to enter my Russian Spitfire in the competition and it did quite well! It took gold in 'Best In Class' and overall Best In Show! I also got presented with a special award from the visiting IPMS Brno, Czech Republic. They decided my Spitfire was 'Coolest Model In Show'! The prize was the new Eduard Spitfire Mk.IXc, personally signed by 'Mr Eduard', Vladimir Sulc. I rarely enter competitions, as I don't like to blow my own trumpet, but I was quite pleased with today Chris.
  19. Thanks Nick. After reading up on the Afrika Tiger I feel I may have picked a rather controversial subject for my first tank! I have no idea as yet of which Abt. I will cross that bridge when I get there. Shall I be daring and do it in olive green?! Chris.
  20. Cheers Dave. Next project will be a first for me. I have always been an aircraft modeller but I felt the need to spread my wings (sic) a little so I'm gonna try my hand at a bit of armor. Planning to do a DAK display, Tiger 1 & Panzer 3 together on a desert base. We'll see how that goes, it will be virgin territory for me!! Chris.
  21. Hi Guys, Bit of an update! The Mossie is coming along nicely now, here's some pics of where I am at: I finished detailing the undercarriage doors and got them painted up: Added thin aluminium strips to the exhaust stubs to give them a hollow look: Tail wheel fitted: Fitted the flaps and undercarriage nacelles!!: She sits nice and level too. All credit to Airfix, the wing tips are the same distance from the ground, phew!! You never know, this may even be finished one day! Cheers for looking, Chris.
  22. Hey Guys, Many thanks for all of these kind comments. This is a pretty large and involving build, but ultimately very enjoyable! One of the best I have done. It is taking a very long time to get it as I want it, and your comments are really good at pushing me to the end. Cheers Guys, Chris.
  23. Mal at Miracle Paint Masks is superb. He's just done the masks for my Mosquito. Totally custom, he will make whatever you want. https://www.facebook.com/miraclemasks?fref=ts Well recommended! Chris.
  24. Thanks Guys. I'm definitely starting to see a small light at the end of a very long tunnel!! These things got pretty grubby from looking at some period photos, especially around the underside of the engines. I'll probably dirty it up around these areas a little but be a little more reserved with the rest. The yellow and black stencilling are kit decals. Pretty good, printed by Cartograf. Nice touch Airfix! Cheers guys, back soon with a bit more. Chris.
  25. Hey Guys, Small update. I've got the markings sprayed up. All done courtesy of Mal at Miracle Masks. Top man and a quality product! Cheers Mal . Got a few minor touch-ups to do, but generally I'm pretty happy with the result. I'm now just finishing off detailing the undercarriage doors, then I can fit the undercarriage/engine pods and get this thing on its wheels! Cheers Guys, Chris.
