  1. These are all very nice and all but where can they be purchased from? I've tried emailing David Allen but 2 weeks on nothing and MDC has nothing listed on their product catalogue! Can anyone provide a definitive list or retailers of WWI 1/32 scale figures please as hunting them down is proving rather tricky!
  2. Many thanks Jeroen - actually that very piece took 4 attempts to get to the finished item. I felt the black line around the fabric and the nail marks too cartoonish and stood out too much - the later pictures show it with a brown oil paint wash and no nail marks and it looks a lot better now it is install in the closed up fuselage. (You could still see the heavy black line when closed up)
  3. Great idea with the seat! I have loads of that styrene rod and I will steal that idea for my other Albatros.
  4. Albatros D.Va (OAW) Hans von Gössel Jasta 71 So this was my second WnW build that has been a stop go, stop go affair since September 2014. After my Sopwith Snipe I had learned an awful lot about the hobby and I was determined to take my time. Also the fact that this had been a gift from a very close friend meant that I really wanted to do it justice. This WIP thread will be basically just photos from the very start to where I am presently, so sit back relax and enjoy watching a noob make a complete balls up, recovery, balls up as I stop go, stop go my way through the build. Engine:
  5. Fantastic - Im pretty much wrapping the WnW Albatros DV.a (OAW) up myself - almost at the rigging stage.
  6. Now there was a few MAJOR cockups; First I accidentally crushed the Spandau LMG and after painting and fitting the wind screen I suddenly realised there was a very slight crack/scratch in it, this required me to order a clear parts sprue from WnW and the PE parts. Having thrown away the crushed gun I suddenly realised that i needed the LMG's receiver to build the replacement! This ended up with me taking the molded gun - chopping the cooling jacket and building up my own PE version - fortunately I had replaced the original barrel with brass rod to add to the detail. Final I also noticed that one of the lines in the wheel struts had frayed over the week and was about to break, this required me to remove the section of line and turnbuckles and start again - very fiddly through all the other lines.
  7. From here the spiderweb of rigging continued - again several lines took 3 or 4 attempts to perfect. However the final effect is stunning!
  8. On to the top section - The first job I did was to drill a 0.3mm hole through the pulley system on the carbane and then fit two lines of 0.2mm ezwire. This really was a royal PITA to do but really worth the effort and putting the drill though my forefinger! This was then mounted to the modified carbane - I really didn't like the stock part that came with the kit, the model is excellent but I felt that as the rigging was the focul point of the model I needed to really focus on this area for detail. Removing the plastic and replacing it with Gaspatch turnbuckles really made a huge difference!
  9. Very, very nice! One little thing though (I'm a huge StarWars fan) is that those two round holes on the rear are actually red navigation lights: (Reference here: http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/star-wars-statues-props-etc-/84525-efx-tie-fighter-19.html) Vadars Tie Advance has 4 red navigation lights on the rear. But seriously those are beautiful - I'm jealous!
  10. the next step was to insert the turnbuckles for the wing warping mechanics that can be seen protruding from the fuselage in many of the early Eindecker images - this was a real pain as I didn't have a drill bit long enough so in the end I broke out the CA glue and held them in place till they set. After this madness ensured with the whole of the underside wing warping work going forward at a very, very slow rate often the same line requiring to be laid 3 or 4 times just to get it perfect. This really shows off all the small details and fine work that goes in to replicating an Eindeckers controls. Next step the top side!
  11. So with all the paint work done and custom decals it was time to start rigging. I rigged the undercarriage struts before attaching it to the fuselage to give me more room to play with as things were going to get very fiddly under their as I planned to replicate the rigging and wing warping mechanics to the photos. Close up showing the anchor points on the struts - I used 1/48 scale Gaspatch anchors for this work.
  12. Erik B. that's corrected - Bought my first kit in August and started it in September.

    New WnW GB!

That's awesome! Helps me and my incredible slow build rate I was thinking of the BisFit but it seems there are a few of those, so I will have to look at something else I think.
  14. We lost contact with her as it left New Zealand a while ago with no pings on the EMS tracking and we were worried it had come down in the crossing! Thankfully she touched down no worse for wear here in Japan.
  15. Guys I live in Japan and would be more then willing to help people get these kits as I can probably source them cheaper than what HLJ is selling them for! If you need a reference check talk to Francisco Guedes as I help guys source OOP Wingnut Wings kits from Japan as the era isn't so popular here.
