Me too. I’m really tired now of all the rework...:censored:

Before starting the priming process I test-fitted the thruster within the tail cone, because a rework of this area after the painting process  would be much effort.

Some rework was necessary until the fit was ok:

Now I can start masking and priming at the long weekend...

Looks absolutely how it should be!, very convincing exhaust, keep up the great work, the fun part is almost there!,

cheers,

Thanks Frank!
You are right: Now the real fun part begins!

BTW: When will we see an Update of your 1/18 109E-build? Curious to see the progress!

Short update:

Damaged my windscreen when adding rivets to the base. Caused a crack. This was caused because when gluing the windscreen to the fuselage it didn’t fit close but there was a small gap. The tension of my riveting and the thin plastic lead to the crack:

Fortunately I had a replacement available from my III E kit for which I also improved the fit, which is perfect now:

Additionally I reworked the parachute housing at the tail cone, because it had a banana-curve at the top:

Used 0,38 mm Evergreen Sheet to thicken it up:

But now on to the painting process...

Seems the Mirage has a mind of her own and isn't going to give up the fight so easily :popo: But it seems lady Luck is on your side and having another III kit and the all important replacement canopy  was like the 7th Cavalry coming to the rescue. The new canopy fit looks so much better and nice work correting the shape of the parachute housing.

Keep 'em comin

Thank you both and also to the 7th cavalry!
Hope she gives up now and lets me paint her ;)

Hi Kai,

Found this on the Italeri homepage, :D:lol:, in Germany TUV really does stand for Quality, but I had a good laugh when I saw this, maybe they will send you a new canopy ?

But I hope you have taken the last hurdle before painting,

TUV

company with Quality System Conformity.

Cheers,

Frank

Ha ha! This is really a joke! But a quality system conformity doesn’t define the definition which quality-level your product should have. It only defines the process to guarantee the chosen quality level.
At least the customer decides if he will buy a product with such a quality level...

Apropos quality: yesterday I also prepared the remaining parts of the landing gear (Fittings and retraction cylinders for the main landing gear flaps). A lot of test-fitting and rework needed again. D151DD40-664A-44E4-8013-7E926AE3D111.thumb.jpeg.4faedbb82231cb48af70bd1f60893786.jpeg

Hydraulic cylinder for retraction of big LG flap. Italeri provides 2 equal parts out of which you have to make a right and a left part by yourself (if you like).

Levers on the big LG-Doors. Thickening of fitting necessary to fit correctly in the LG bay.

On the weekend I will prepare her for priming. Masks to the windshield already fitted.

Thanks for your feedback and compassion!
I realized that I really forgot to prepare the parts as of above. Wanted to finish them before starting the painting process.

But these are really the last tiny bits to correct.

All tiny bits painted and weathered now:

All landing gear and actuators (now really all ;))

Masked windshield. The masks also had to be reworked (that’s my „word of the year 2021“, uncountable how often I wrote it here) to mask perfectly...

Tomorrow night everything on the bird will be closed and prepared for black painting of the canopy frame and then priming can start.

Looking so good and fingers crossed your Mirage will be in the paint shop tonight for her black primer.

My Mirage and resin sets still sit in the stash unopened as I would never have the patience and rock steady nerves to complete the kit.

Keep 'em comin

Thanks Peter,

So nice to hear that your health is getting better and better! The only wish I have that you will recover completely soon!

You are right that you need good nerves when building this kit. Leave it where it is and finish your beautiful P-39 and F-4.

Wow Kai, those hydraulic lines and landing gear look absolutely convincing with the decals on, those are the details that will stand out when the Mirage is done, like a cherry on the cake. really curious how you will handle the painting, keep up the good work!,

Frank

Thanks for your feedback Frank!

I‘m curious too. Plan to do it like on my Lancaster. No panelliners needed in the end. We will see if it works. But still a longer way to go...

Well, Kai...   You've done some great work on so much stuff that many have given up on.  Those parts look nice...  your washes look especially good.

I think after this, you should reward yourself with a WNW (or Meng Fokker) kit where the worst you have to do is eliminate the dorsal seam.   For motivation I present to you the Rise of Flight Forum where you can see lots of inspirational artworks based on Fokker fighters.

...you may have to join to see the photos.

https://riseofflight.com/forum/forum/197-fokker-dvii/

And some of the photos...  due to the age of the posts have disappeared.

I had the game Rise of Flight years ago, but got disillusioned with it shortly before I returned to building models.

Anyway....   looking forward to paint!

Thank you for your feedback Gary!

I had a short look already at the homepage for which you send to me the link. I have to register. This I will do tomorrow and then give feedback to you!
These WNW-/Meng-Kits are the Tamiya Quality kits in the WWI-segment. I will for sure give my Dr I a try ! Has a Richthofen bust included.

But before I build it I have to build a Tornado GR.4 of 617 Sgn with lights and my Dayglo 1/32 Fiat G-91.
