Very nice Gary, it's always good to see, when the figures correspond with each other, to make a believable scenery.

Cheers Rob

Thank you, Rob!

Looking very good Gaz, figure painting is amazing, sorry the mesh didn’t workout, soldering irons, fingers and tiny parts do not really mix……

Thank you, Phil.  I actually burnt the pad of my left thumb.  And that is the thumb I use to open my mobile phone as well.  So, for almost a week, I had to use my PIN every time I wanted to use my phone or any app on it.

Let snow, let it snow, Let it snow...

IMG_0827.thumb.JPG.fb294eff459332adc54b0be8db3f9b89.JPG

I'm not sure that I'm happy with this stuff.  I reckon it just might be soap powder.  The grains art bigger than I like for the purpose.  I swear next time I'm just gonna use baking soda.  I used on a model 5 years ago, and it doesn't appear to changed.

IMG_0828.thumb.JPG.351b6a946313a00e052020596e62de80.JPG

After painting thinned PVA in places in the tracks, on the roadwheels, drive sprockets, idler and hull I sprinkled it with the faux snow.  In some places I painted a bit more PVA on to try to fight the grainy-ness.

IMG_0829.thumb.JPG.8d5c016f7f7924731934c05c0739173a.JPG

In this way, I'm hoping to connect the panzer to the base in the viewer's brain.

IMG_0834.thumb.JPG.0e37e4051fa3abf83b2f762829093370.JPG

It's still too blue.  I'll have to use some more white through the airbrush in places.  Probably some grey here and there to vary the shadows.

The PVA is still wet.  So, I'll start painting the tools on the panzer.

Any opinions or ideas on the snow...  will be appreciated.

I like the snow you applied Gary. Snow can be very different in it's appearance from powdery to slush, from feather like fine grained to coarse over frozen stuff.
I have different snowy / icy dios in the planning, but haven't tried out what works best, that way, I'm more a looker and learner. I would probably apply some light white coat with the airbrush or with pastels in the way of highlighting, to emphasize frozen rubber and metal, specially around the running gear and some deposits on the tank as well.

Cheers Rob

You are maybe right, pastels or pigments are more forgiving.

Cheers Rob

White pigments disappear under a matte coat.  You can mix them with other color pigments...   and get your vision...   until you apply that matte coat.

Have you tried Ak's weathering pencils, I used them on some occasions, even the white one if I remember it right and it didn't disappear under varnish. The good with these, you can alter the application partly, using them dry or dipped into water.

Gaz

Nice start on the snow cover dio base and looking mighty good. I think it's more of looking at the entire scene and determining what's where in relation to objects, shadows and trampled, beat up snow.

The base should be your clean pallet of a very grayish white snow. Tracks and road, more slushy and muddy browns mixed in and under the tank and in shadow areas, mix in darker blue, as there is a lot of blue in the shadows. I think by varying the snow color pallet, the overall effect will blend and look very natural. How much blue, gray and browns to added - just play with it.  Just my thoughts and hopefully they might help.

I have a few of them.  One of them is rain marks which is just an off white.  I may give that a go.

Peter, thank you.  I am not really going for slushy or muddy effects.  I'm going for a February time frame when the sun melts snow from vehicles, yet secondary dirt roads (or improvised paths like this one) are still basically all white and covered in packed snow.  I grew up living on a dirt road with a dirt driveway, so it's a condition I'm very familiar with.  The difficulty is making what my brain sees into a physical reality.

In my first snow dio, I started with white and found it very difficult to work with.  So this time I started with the blue-grey.

It's amazing how long one can spend painting details and weathering figures...   and applying a few decals.  The pics will say the rest...

I need a bucket or crate.  I want to put it over the sight.  I want to give the impression that the vehicle is buttoned up to keep it warm inside...  or at least wonder why there is a beer crate over the sight...

I still gotta do shit with pigments, too!

I like the Jagdpanzer ,

But one thing i would like to share with you (dont get me Wrong )

The M43 Parka and trousers didn't com in white ,It came in Italian M1929 Telo mimetico (Parka's only)  ,and in al the German grey shades (parka's + Trousers )
The m43 parka you see in period pictures with fur hoods have a white thin coveral over them here a good video about it .

Thank you, Peter.  I did more on the figures today.  But I also began weathering the tank.

There first step was to add some scratches to the hull...   where the schurzen had been torn off....

IMG_0847.thumb.JPG.1bcc134c99151cfd2b08c8a3db784d21.JPG

Far from convincing at this point...  I'll add further weathering on them later.

Then I did the pin wash.  I started with a medium brown-black.  But the brown tones were just absorbed in the red.  So, I added more black.IMG_0848.thumb.JPG.f14b02b6123832bf1884028f5f9ca173.JPG

IMG_0851.thumb.JPG.702ea4138cf0e9065356dcf693958327.JPG

I had to spend a lot of time trying to lighten it up.  To get rid of the darkness caused by blending, I kept going over it with white spirits.  Except for a few more little snow and very few mud effects, and some streaking, I'm going to keep the weathering light.

Adding the tools brought some extra live into the Jagdpanzer, they add a lot of contrast. Same does the wash, but I have to say, I don't like the scratches on the sides of the hull, they don't look right to my eye :2c:.

I can't say that I'm perfectly happy with them.  But I really don't know what else to do.  They wouldn't have come off without leaving marks.  I've seen pics where some of the brackets were still hanging...   but since they (the kit part) are too short...  I nixed that.  Another option would be to paint over them as if the paint had been touched up.  But I don't know that would be any more convincing.
