Yesterday, we said goodbye to Jaak Daemen, the last surviving veteran of Belgium's legendary 5th SAS regiment from WWII.
At the age of 16 he entered the resistance, joined the 5th SAS in England at 18 years, participated in Operation Larkswood, conducted operations deep behind German lines, hunted down Nazi war criminals, arrested admiral Karl Dönetz, trained the Congolese and the Burundi army, worked for a travel agency after he retired but remained an active intelligence officer. He spoke 7 languages.

We will remember him, and the SAS legacy he left behind.

Who dares wins.

Unfortunately time never waits and there are fewer of this great generation left. Sounds like he had a remarkable life and career. Hadn't heard of Larkswood but looking it up it's an interesting story of high command once again not using special forces correctly.
