Fw190D-9. JV44. A quick build towards GB end.

This GB has been a real blast! We're nearing the end - so let me sneak in with a quick second build.

Work and travel commitments have been very high lately, and bench time (& mental powers) have been limited. What better than a Hasegawa OOB build?

This will be their Fw190D-9, using kit decals and HGW belts.

I'll be building a JV44 bird - "Red 3" - Hptm. Waldemar Wuebke. I'm yet to build a "pappagei-staffel" bird - which is surely a modelling rite-of-passage.

Mike's "Red 1" is superb, and Paulo's "Red 13" is taking shape - mind if I join you? :) :)

Here's the Hasegawa box art:

Let the fun begin!

I'll be wizzing through the construction phase.... like my FW190A-8 build, the focus will be improving my painting & weathering skills.

Now.. I made a start a couple of weeks ago...Ready to put the airframe together:

Cockpit is OOB with kit IP decal. As mentioned I'll add the HGW belts.. I'm working on this now..

Main construction is complete!

Tim,

I'm of the belief that one can never have too many good cigars, women of questionable morals and red bottomed Doras!

Thanks Paulo and Mike for allowing me to tag along. Mike - very true hahahah :D :d

Nice! Godspeed! Following along....

Thanks Jeroen. :)

This is coming along real quick, and looking particularly clean and neat too. Lovely work  B)

Thanks James :). I normally try to keep the construction reasonably clean. (the bench though is another story!)

  • 4 weeks later...

A business trip had me away for a couple of weeks, but now back to the bench. Only a few weeks to go!

Painting is underway, starting with the underside.  Now for some (iphone) pics.

Firstly a coat of tamiya acrylic flat white followed by 3mm tape to mask the stripes.

Next, an application of Mr. Color 114  (RLM23)

Progress... majority of painting is done, using Mr. Color range - RLM76, 81, 82, 83.

And - I'm without camera at the moment...

More iphone pics!

As a rough guide I'm using the eduard jv44 kit instructions.. based on Crandall's book. But I'm not convinced with my mottling job... maybe need to tone down? Let me sleep on it....

Nice job! The red/white paint was made in the way I intend to do mine as soon as I could fix my Compressor, who busted his freezer motor. I'm looking for a new motor to fix it.

I really appreciate your paint job!.

Thanks Paul.. Thanks Grant!

Now I'm really on the home stretch.  :)   Some wing root chipping and the flat coat (Gaia ex-04. Great stuff!)  were applied.   Canopy masking tape removed (always the best part).
