For those of you contemplating building a Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire, you may, as I have done, been concerned about the two large mounting holes for the slipper tank and what to do if you decide not to mount the tank. This may be old news to some. There is nothing in the instructions that show any other way than mounting the tank. Fear not! As you gaze at your F sprue (there are two) you will notice F9. Unobtrusive as it is and, in fact, marked "not for use" it is the part you seek. I recognised it from some photos I was looking at of the underside. The only problem is I pinged one off into the ether so if anybody has a spare, it would be appreciated as I stole one from my Mk IX kit!

Missing part update....

I used the world famous "I am going to totally ignore the actual part I am looking for and look for another part that I have lost" technique and successfully found the F9 part sitting on the edge of my workbench in plain view!

Hello all,

I have been a bit distracted for the last few weeks, so here is a brief update on the build. I have moved onto the spinner and prop assembly. I have added strips of BMF to the LE of the propellers to simulate the metal strip that was present:

The hub has been painted in MM Aluminium and the prop tips and spinner undercoated in white:

An oil wash to the central hub, spinner masked, the tips sprayed with yellow and all the bits masked for the black:

And that's where we are at the moment.

Hello all,

I have hit a wall with this. I am up to the part where I need to fair in the gun inserts into the leading edge. I have prepared the areas, rehearsed the process in my mind a thousand times but I am paralysed with the thought of buggering it up! Irrational I know but I cannot bring myself to put putty to plastic! Hence the diversion of the 1/48 Airfix Hurricane and now finishing a 1/48 Mosquito from the shelf of procrastination. I have set the Mk XVI just off to one side for a moment (thankfully it has been extended).
