The Great LSM Twins Group Build ends July 3, 2024 ×

converting the HK Models prototype Lancaster into a Manchester.

Recommended Posts

Some progress. The cockpit parts are nearly ready. Still to do is scratchbuilding an instrument panel. A new throttle box pedestal has been made which is much better than the previous attempt. The flight engineers panel has had the two rows of instruments on the starboard side cut off because of only two engines instead of four.

Looking forward to seeing this develop further  . . .

It has..a bit.

Working on the oil cooler intakes which are almost recessed in the wing leading edge. The opening of which is quite large. Luckily I had some aluminium tubing lying around. With a very coarse round file the opening was carefully filed out to a tight fit. Then the tubing inserted and making sure they are square in the wing and also protrude the same. Phew, I'm happy.

Some progress. Cutting up the Airscale Lancaster pe parts. Just remove what's Lancaster. Sorry Peter. Also been doing some further work in the portside fitting piping. And the twin controlwheels.

It’s been a while but today saw the first painting of the cockpit commencing.

recently I have switched to tamiya acrylic  paint and boy what a joy. First the interior green was done. The Manchester had a mostly green  cockpit. I also gave it dual controls. Mind you the cockpit is a mishmash of manchester and Lancaster as detail references of the manchester are not very clear.

this will certainly speed up the cockpit work.

Cheers

Cees

Bit too far away from me. I’m a cheesehead with my finger in the dyke.

second colour black for panels and Seat cushions. I have chosen black instead of brown as during recoveries of Wellington and Whitley wrecks the upholstery was very much black.

 Me too Gus,

Toddy turned out to be a mammoth modelling session.

the seatbelts in the cockpit seating positions were fitted. The Eduard set is very nice. Some detailpainting on the T1154/R1155 radio setup took place.

Having an original T1154 in my living room helped regarding the coloured knobs.

Very pleased how the camera lens turned out and it’s position is spot on over the hole in the fuselage. This will be glazed too.

then I could finally fit everything in place such as controlcolumns navigators panel and table and finally his seat too. This took a lot of testfitting.

Next to be done the engineer and pilot instrument panel.

Hope you like

Cees

This cockpit is looking great, nice wear on the floor. The camera lens is marvelous, I like playing with different grades of reflection on kits surfaces and glass parts reflect a lot.

Cheers Rob

Brilliant Cees.

You do have some interesting items in your living room!?

Yes, apart from the T1154 transmitter there is also a complete RAF blindflyingpanel and in the other room a full size Spitfire II panel as a work in progress although that hasn't been worked on in months and will probably be replaced by a full size Lancaster main instrument panel. Then again there is "Henry" our bodyguard which is a fully kitted out RAF aircrew dummy that used to occupy the Halifax cockpit, but now guards our bicycles in the basement;).

Well it keeps you off the streets.
