Italeri LCM3 landing craft w/Tasca Firefly Vc

Recommended Posts

Ok, something that I started on a whim. This one goes back to my childhood and building the old Airfix LCM kit in 1/72(76?). I stormed many a Normandy beach with that one and the Sherman it came with.

Anyways, with a number of 1/35 Shermans in the stash, I thought I'd relive my childhood, only in a proper scale.  So part one is the landing craft and it's a fairly straightforward kit with a single piece hull.

The vehicle well was built up from side panels and an upper deck.

Then the two were joined together.

So far, it's been pretty painless. Now to modify it a bit to more closely resemble the RN version as I'll be using a Sherman Firefly as the cargo. I'll probably work on this in-between the B-25.

Nice choice. Who's firefly will you be using?

Thanks! I've got a couple of the Tasca ones, including the rare Tamiya rebox plus one Dragon so I haven't decided yet. Probably going to be a Tasca kit as they go together so easily.

The Tasca is beautiful, only ever build Tasca or Dragon Sherman’s.....

They are very nice kits indeed. Here's the first Firefly I built.

It was done using the original Dragon M4 Hybrid kit and their second version of the VC Firefly.

Here's another one. This is also a Dragon kit but the more recent one. I used the Black Dog hessian tape conversion on it.

Looking for appropriate crew figures for the LCM, I've found that Italeri make a set of RN crew figures for the Vosper MTB so my LHS has ordered a set for me.

Carl, got the barrel yesterday ! Any more work done ?.....Harv

Great to hear Harv! On the Tse Tse, I haven't done much recently. The only bit missing is the ejection port for the shells. If I don't bother with the internal shape, then it's ready to go. Just cut a hole in the bomb bay door and that's it. What do you think?

Since I'm waiting on the LCM crew to arrive, I figured I might as well start on the cargo. I decided to go with the Tasca Firefly Vc for this bit.

I noticed that the dimensions were a bit off...

:D

Just kidding, here's the right kit.

The lower hull is the plate style so that was first up.

The front transmission housing:

And in the LCM hull which gives a nice size comparison.

I replaced the barrel with AM from RB, does make it really sing........looking good Carl......

I think I have an Armorscale barrel somewhere. If  not, I'll look around and see what I find.

Nice build and good to see something different. I also remember the Airfix LCM as a kid.

Ithanks Maxim! I saw the Airfix kit for sale and was tempted to grab it for nostalgia.

Nice build, Carl.  Talk about a real Canadian icon!

Thanks Ernie! I'm planning to do another Vc with all the spare track links that the Canadian tankers were so fond of covering their Shermans with.
