1to1scale
Well, as I planned, I started a quick build, a 21st century A6M3 zero build, but somehow, the Hasegawa A6M5 in closet told me it was lonely. Yes, my stash talks to me. So out came the airbrush and paint, the M3 cockpit is fully painted, just needing weathering and final assembly. The M5 had a coat of paint, but still needs work. 9 models on the bench is getting crowded.
1to1scale
A little bit of progress today, cockpit painted, weathered, assembled and in place. I did have to fabricate some pedals from scratch, as the kit had none I could find, and the instructions didn’t reference one either. So, some leftover PE parts, and some plastic rod and tubes, one set of pedals. I just finished the engine, it’s also painted and installed.

1to1scale
Finished painting the Aotaki inside the cowl and painted the gear, prop, and cowling semi-gloss black. Engine is 100% assembled and installed, tomorrow, I will close the fuselage and sand the seams. So far I have about 5 hours into it. I hope to lay down paint this week. Decals are on order and won’t be here until next week.

Man, that pit is sweet!!........harv Theses 21st Century kits are pretty nice, the level of detail the included for a toy is over the top, there were a few missing items which make you scratch your head, like no gauges, just holes, and no rudder pedals, but they included a fuel tank and oxygen bottles you will never see, and details like drilled barrels for the machine gun, drilled bulkhead and seat holes, and three decal options. Yes, it’s a toy and has folding landing gear and screw together and plug construction, but has very nice shape overall. My next project might me the italian 205 in my closet, and I’m thinking about trying to find a few corsairs too. my thinking, if you use fast dry paint and masks, you could build one of these in a weekend, or possibly a full day. I’m thinking that if I sat down Saturday morning with the 205, since it has even fewer parts than the Zero, I could have it done by dinner!
GazzaS
OK... I'm confused. Which Zero had the square wing tips? Gaz

Gaz The first 343 A6M3 had square tips, but the rounder tips were reintroduced into production. Although a few were built at the very end of the production also
GazzaS
Thanks for that... another tidbit of information I didn't know. Have to admit that most I know about the Zero I either gleaned from TV or flying it online with IL2 Sturmovik.
1to1scale
I didn't know that myself either, usually read up on a plane before I start work on it. But, i'm going to piss everyone off with my build. I'm building an A6M2 Pearl Harbor attacker out of my A6M3, without making the mods! OMG. Let the beatings begin! Blasphemy....Heresy! Burn the witch!
Drifter
1to1scale is soon going to be 1to0.5scale once these cut off some certain parts.
GazzaS
Well... I won't give ya a hard time. What would there be to change: Bury the cannon. Not sure if the cowling was different. I like the square wingtips as it just sets it apart from the rest a little bit. Gaz

1to1scale
Here is my progress, I started Nov 28, I have about 8-9 hours in it. most of that is sanding. The construction is done with screws, then you insert plastic plugs into the holes, which don't fit well. So I had to shave them flush, apply filler, and sand. there were at least 9-10 plugs, the plastic does not like Tamiya thin, and liked the thick stuff even less. the one amazing thing about this kit, no sprue gates, nothing to sand and trim!

1to1scale
My goal was to have her done today, didn’t quite make it. I still need to spray dullcoat and wash, fix a split seam in front of the windscreen, and the carpet monster claimed the gun barrels, so I need to dig up some master barrels I ordered not long ago. But since it is Dec 7, here it is.
