Hi Everyone,

Got the Tamiya Turret built and heavily modified it with rougher welds, casting numbers, and roughened the sides with mr. Surfacer.  Then primed it black to look for errors.  Then added a wash and snow to the running gear.  More snow to come.

NOw is the hard part...

Choosing the patriotic slogan for my tank.  I know...  I could use some unit marking, or even some numbers copied from a picture.

Some of the common names dragged up from Russia's Imperial past:

Суваров =  Suvarov, a often victorious general

Кутузов = Forced a draw on Napoleon at Borodino

Александр Невский = Alexander Nevsky fought both Germans and Swedes in the 12th Century

...  all appeared on tanks in various forms...

There were a lot of 'slogans' that were actually just the names of organizations that donated money for the tank...  But not really into those...

Родина = Motherland ...shows up often

Сталин = Stalin...  ughhh

Я люблю щенков ....  not very warlike, and I haven't seen it on a tank...  thought I'd throw it out there with the big backwards R.

...anyway...  still debating!

Thank you, Peter!

With a small amount of time, I've added more snow detail and got the turret into a pre-weathering condition.  The tank was marked with "Suvarov 166" of the 106th Tank Brigade.  Some photos:

Wow, very dynamic, the snow looks great and very convincing. Is there a difference between the 'a' and the 'o' in Suwarow, because it looks like the same letter 'o' on the picture. I'm barely able to decipher Cyrillic letters, so I'm not an expert, just wondering. By the way, the hand lettering looks khorosho.

Hi Rob, thank you!  I worked off a profile I saw online....  and you're the first person to notice.  I actually used google translate and I see there should be a difference. but there isn't.  I don't have an original photo to work from, unfortunately.  I hate the thought of stripping it again.

Thank you!

could you possibly add a little snow falling from the front of the tracks...

I've been thinking about this and trying to reason out the technique in my head.  I know I could use cotton, but it would require a perfect, continuous sprinkle of snow.  Otherwise, it'd look like crap.  I'll try a few tries.  I've seen other modellers use cotton for other effects, too...  But when you can tell it's a cotton ball...  you know your plans have gone to hell.

Cheers!

I just went looking for other Russian Suvarov stuff.  Here are some posters:

Phew!  I really didn't want to redo it!

That's convincing evidence against my soso argumentation :) , which was based on the English/German translation of SuvArOv you gave us. Like I said, I'm no expert  with Cyrillic letters or Russian language. Good to hear that everything is fine.

Cheers Rob
