It's all good Jeff. It's hard to see as is.

Here's an even better view as it snapped off when I was trying to change the cable for a longer one.

Thankfully it's a clean break so won't be too bad to glue back in. I will wait on that until I have some suitably long enough cable and can confirm it'll fit between the rollers.

Watching the video again and reviewing the instructions, the amount of cable they give you in the kit isn't anywhere near enough if you plan to have a loaf on the trailer. There's about 25cm of cable (rope actually) in the kit and you need almost double that if you're doing a 3:1 winch like in the video.

Those rollers make perfect sense now, thanks for the EXCELLENT pics, they have thought of everything on this kit.... as the guys are saying, stunning work, Carl.....

Spent some time tonight painting the trailer.

First I added some of the kit's PE bits to the top of the trailer .

There's six per side and thankfully Thunder moulds an indentation for where they go so it wasn't as painful as I thought it might get.

I then gave everything a base coat of dark yellow. IMG_20200829_223032.thumb.jpg.421920581ca19566052d9b3c89876efa.jpg

This was them oversprayed with Light Stone for some modulation. I then added the blue black splotches and olive drab squiggles.

I then took a sponge sanding stick and carefully wet sanded the top deck.

IMG_20200829_231255.thumb.jpg.6db114ea88ddff8f699343fd4e332485.jpg

I think it's turned out nicely.

One thing I noticed in the video is that the jacks aren't kept attached to the trailer as the instructions would have you so I'm going to leave them off.  Which isn't a bad thing as they look fairly fragile.

How our guys build armor I’ll never know. It never works for me and I lose patience not really being into it

It's actually keeping me sane. I really want to start a plane but the last few haven't been that successful. Looking at a plane kit makes me anxious at the moment. For something a bit bigger, I may start on a 1/12 car kit. But we'll see

Great attention to detail , on the jacks, Carl...... I actually noticed that as well, now that you mention it....

Yeah, what's interesting is that IBG used the same setup on their kit. I wonder if there's a version of the trailer where the jacks do stay attached?

I'm not sure,  seems to be a logical thing I would think.....

Just read this from the start, great work going on here, years ago I used to build armour as a relaxing break after aircraft builds but a Bronco A13 finished that for me, it's still on the shelf of doom after 8 years. The tracks were the end of my AFV building hobby, I bought the Bronco track set, even tried the AA Crusader Trakpax but gave up in the end.

Cheers

It would seem to make sense and make things faster to set up but I'd be concerned about the jack pistons getting gunked up with dirt/sand being under the bed all the time.

Bronco armour kits are definitely on the fiddly side. I've started two and yet to finish either one. Or is it three?

Maybe try one of the other brands Dennis? My Takom Jagdtiger went together like a dream. It's part of their Blitz line which is supposed to be easier to assemble. Or a more recent Tamiya kit...

Yes they use ten parts when two would do, I did build their Staghound which came out well, I even built Maquette's Valentine IV and XI which were challenging and you cannot go wrong with the Tamiya kits but for some reason the A13 finished it for me.

I only built British and Commonwealth subjects and wanted to build a BEF collection.

Maybe one day I will go back as I do have an extensive armour stash and reference section.

Small update. I started on the cab and it's been a bit tricky. Some of the parts seem to be in scale thickness which doesn't leave a lot of joint/glue area.

Also, everything is pretty much flat panels so you need to take care making sure it's all aligned correctly.

  • 2 weeks later...

Spent a bit of time working on the Scammell. I got the shifter and shift gate installed. Talk about fiddly. Then the base for the driver's seat.

For the backrests, I decided to thin them out a bit as the support frame looks a bit thick. The three I've done are on the left compared to the stock one on the right.

Turning to the Grant, I've added some of the hull details. PXL_20200910_211429497.thumb.jpg.d54f282cd2d2703b74cf0c673f9cd33c.jpg

I also finished building the second run of tracks. PXL_20200910_211504175.thumb.jpg.7df5970f87c7dcc1df1d94b4f7ab419d.jpg

Nice detail work, you could have spared a track though, as a reason of the towing ;), but now it's to late.

Cheers Rob

Thanks Rob.  They already  are short one track so I can join them together once I'm ready to install them.

Good news. My Eureka XXL metal tow cables have arrived.

PXL_20200916_005120586.thumb.jpg.b2ca01f5def3a82d62f3c48227b376b8.jpg

I bought a multi set with various thicknesses to try and find the best fit. Unfortunately the only one that could fit through the guide rollers was 0.6 mm and look far too thin. So I ended up drilling between the rollers a 0.9 mm hole and will use that size cable. The hole can't be seen from any angle and is probably what I should have done initially.

I've painted the cable and an just waiting for it to dry.

Wich hole :D, all the detail is looking great, and I hope, lots of it will show in the end. BTW, there is a hexagonal cap near the rope which cries for a little scrape with a blade, victim of the macro :hsmack:. It happens to me all the time.

Cheers Rob

Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't noticed it and it's fixed now.

Although I'm not sure it looks like a cap any more. It all gets covered up so...

A small update. The trailer hitch is now on.

The bellows shaped thingys have a pair of PE brackets that hold them in place on the frame. Good thing I only lost two of them.

I used the survivors as templates and cut out new ones from leftover brass on the fret. I then installed the brackets and the other half of the thingys.
