Blimey didn't realise that. Might have to do that for old times sake.
611 Sqn operated F.8`s in silver and in camouflage,......... so either would be OK, but the camouflaged ones with the later fully glazed canopy do look very nice indeed!

That`s a nice conversion set and it should result in a great model but as a fellow Lancashire lad you should really be going for the 611 (West Lancashire) Sqn option based at Woodvale!

Well,.......just after posting the model as finished I realised that I`d put the wrong serial on the model,...oh bugger! BD776 was actually WG-F and was the stand by aircraft in case I couldn`t get the nose art right! The correct serial for WG-M should be BD897, so I`ve changed it overnight;
and this is the finished model now;
So I got there in the end!

Here is my latest model,......it is the re-released old Revell Hurricane kit converted into a Mk.IIb using the Grey Matter Resin conversion set and the build thread can be found here;

The model represents BD897/ WG-M which was flown by Sqn. Ldr. Billy Drake`s aircraft when he was CO of 128 Sqn. based at Hastings in Sierra Leone, West Africa during 1941-42 and he downed a Vichy French Maryland flying this aircraft.
Finished with Aeromaster acrylics (yes I know,..rare,....cheers again Andy!) with Finnish Light Blue representing RAF Sky Blue and the nose art was hand painted onto the model,..see the build thread! I had originally applied the wrong serial however but have now changed it
Anyway enough blurb,.....here is the modeL, but it originally had the wrong serial;
So the serial was changed from BD776 (WG-F) to the correct BD897 (WF-M);
I hope you like it, and here are some pics of the real aircraft;

Thank you to those who have been following this build and who have posted comments,......your interest helps me make that little extra effort that I might not make otherwise!
Here is another update;
Almost finished now,.....the undercarriage is on and as the matt varnish was a little dodgy in parts and clouded up a bit parts of the tail and propeller spinner have received a further coat of paint to tidy then up;
The gun sight is in place, the canopy is almost ready to be attached and I have to add the Sutton Harness to the pilots seat plus the clear light covers need to be attached (although one of the landing light covers is currently residing with the carpet monster!) and few other jobs including adding the outboard machine guns which protrude from the wing on the real aircraft. Not far to go now,

Its been a while but here is my latest update;
The model has now received a coat of Polly Scale Acrylic Matt varnish using a large wide brush and then the panel lines have received a watercolour wash to highlight the re-cscribed panel lines etc;
The undercarriage and other items will be going on soon,

This is the last update for a week now as I`m fully booked on family days out! Managed to get the decals on last night so here it is;

Cheers,.....I think that the figure is Ultracast,.....he was just sitting in my spares box so I painted him up! I actually wanted the track to be uneven so that I could show it going over uneven ground,......I intend to put some small pebbles under the tracks at the points where it is raised. I`ve left the wheels loose too so that they can be moved up or down too to replicate the suspension,

Latest Update,.....I`ve not managed to get the decals on yet but the nose art is as good as I can get it so I`m calling it done! Not brilliant by any shades of the imagination but I`m OK with it;
I`ll try and get most of the decals on tonight although the Techmod sheet from Hannants has still not arrived and I need that for my under wing roundels! If I have time in the morning I`ll try and post some more pics,

PS- Just noticed that the surface of the resin nose looks rather rough in the close up photo but it doesn`t look half as bad in reality and the matt coat shouldhopefully sort that out?

Hiya Folks,
Another tank from my collection,.....here is the 17 pdr A30 Challenger, made from the SKP kit;
Here it is almost ready to start painting........quite a bit of filler needed but a simple build (on a Tea Tray lying on the settee whilst recovering from an injury) which I enjoyed as I`ve always liked the WW2 Chally!! The metal 17 pdr is superb but I`ve chickened out with the tracks however and although I was going to order a set of resin `Trak Pak`s' from Acc Armour a kind fellow modeller gave me a couple of sets of rubber Tamiya Cromwell tracks instead which did the job nicely, he used metal tracks on his models;
Here is the finished model;
It is meant to go on a diorama one day once I get better at doing this sort of stuff, hence the uneven tracks!
The colour scheme is based on photographic evidence which shows three or four A 30 Challengers of 7th Armoured Division wearing a disruptive camouflage finish seen amongst lines of Cromwells being prepared for battle, seen here;

Here is the latest update,........the Humbrol 35 gloss varnish (from a large tin, rather than a bottle or small tin as I feel that it settles better,..nice and tight!) has been brushed on ready for the decals, the vacuformed canopy has been cut out and dry fitted to the model while the framework is being slowly built up a coat at a time. The nose art is steadily taking shape too;
This is a close up of the nose art,....still very untidy yet but hopefully I`ve now got it down to an approximation of the right size,.....it needs to be coloured in and lots of tidying up yet,......please don`t expect it look exactly like the real thing mind you,..as you`ll be disappointed!;
Hopefully I`ll get one more update in before I have a week off,

Hiya Folks,
As requested here is another from the back list,.....this is the Trumpeter Swordfish Mk.I and it has been built as an aircraft embarked upon HMS Illustrious in the Mediterranean during 1940 which would have taken part in the raid on Taranto harbour had it not crashed on take off on the morning of the raid due to sea water in the petrol tank, a problem which had claimed a number of aircraft during the lead up to the raid, caused by damage to the ships aviation fuel tanks!
It was built from the box but with a combination of Xtradecal and spares box decals, whilst the under wing codes were masked and hand painted. The model was hand painted by brush using White Ensign enamel Sky Grey, Polly Scale acrylic Dark Slate Grey and Humbrol acrylic 123 Extra Dark Sea Grey with lighter colours mixed for the top of the lower wing.
The hardest part of the build was the rigging using the etched parts supplied in the kit as most of these pinged off whilst trying to attach the completed wings to the model, so I would advise rigging the model once the wings are attached!!! The control lines for the tail and the radio mast were made using Aeroclub elastic monofilament thread.
Oh yeah..nearly forgot....as the Mk.I kit does not supply any bomb racks or light stores carriers for under the wings (which the more recent Mk.III does!), a series of holes were drilled into the appropriate places and plastic rod was inserted to replicate the attachment points for these items.

Hiya Folks,
As I`ve been asked to post some of my `back list' here are my two Trumpeter Avenger`s, converted into a Mk.II belonging to the Eastern Fleet during the Palembang Raid and a Mk.III of the British Pacific Fleet in Australia just after VJ Day.
First the Mk.II;
This Avenger was credited with shooting down a Japanese fighter during the Palembang Raid.
Here is the Mk.III;
The radar pod under the wing was made from the kits torpedo and the clear bulges were (poorly!) vacuformed using the waist windows from a Monogram B-29 as a guide. The lower engine cooling gills are incorrect for this version (equivalent to the TBM-3E) but I retained the kits gills after my attempt at building alternatives failed drastically!

You`ve done a great job there,...........I hope that somebody comes to your rescue and manages to run a few canopies for you. I`ve tried it myself but failed miserably and burnt my fingers during the process!
