By the way can you guys remove the failed photobucket images, it's becoming really annoying how a thread becomes contaminated. Also I would suggest to administrators to limit the size of images at the bottom page. Cheers

I had the eduard set for a long time before I got the tamiya kit, It looks pretty nice given all the additional coloured details compared to the tamiya std. There are a few sheet metal parts that have to be bent, for instance the projector support to the gunsight, the eduard part has much more detail and is thinner according to the scale. Also there is a metallic part for the door entrance to the cockpit which looks nice as well. I guess I'm discovering the set as I go and will know how it looks when assembled. Can't assess if it's worth the money I guess that is a subjective and personal appreciation. Cheers

Hi Jeroen, They were shipped a week ago, so I'm looking forward to having a close look as well. Though for what I saw in ref pictures the look pretty nice. They come with photoetched covers. Hope they will arrive soon.

Hi folks,
Coming back to LSM after a couple of years or so awayvfrom the bench.
But to gain momentum I was tempted after some time to do a desertic scheme Spitfire MkIXc. I will transcript what is described from the Eagle cals description:
WD-W EN354:
This was a MkV upgraded to MkIX specs. This aircraft was operated from La Sabala airfield in North Tunisia, pretty close to Tunis the capital city. Fitted with five spokes wheels, small carburetor intake and large over wing blisters.
It seems that this was part of the RAF inventory and it was transferred to the USAAF.
RAF markings where over sprayed with dark earth. So a pretty unusual Spit camouflage, lots of fun doing the painting.
The AM item at this point are the North Star 5 spoke wheels, Eduard interior set and RB Sutton seat belts.
Working the engine out. I wanted to give that oily and dusty look expected as these Spitfires were operated in Tunisia, a desertic, dry, dusty sunny environment.
Basically I started with a base coat of XF-18 semi gloss black, then I applied with the airbrush some lights of dark grey XF-24 on the cylinders heads covers side walls of the block and the bottom of the engine. Then a coat of Pledge equivalent to future to give that glossy finish so I could apply oil washes with Tamiya panel line accent color, (brown and dark brown) I know the the references say that the finish should be semi gloss, but as I wanted to give a dusty finish I over sprayed very thin coats of XF-57 buff, kind of a sand color. Then I applied some dry brush with metallic paint humbrol to highlight the edges. Finally sealed everything with Klear Kote Matt from Alclad II.

Beautiful, Mike, she stands proud. And scheme is extremely attractive.
Is there a big difference between kit's wings and Barracuda Inserts to justify the pain?
Can we see pictures from other angles (Top, Bottom) to appreciate the whole package,

I built this one back in 2014.

Wings painted with Tamiya AS-12 straight from the can.
Fuel cells panels masked off. They were natural aluminum, no paint. Later on painted with alclad II.

I built this one back in 2014.
This Revell Kit it's great value for the money. Cockpit detail is great I just adden Finemolds injected harnesses. And MDC wheels.
I know lots of modellers do not like pre-shading, I'm still using this technique. Along with post-shading as well.
Sorry for uploading old models, hope 2016 will have some time for me to upload new models, my stash is full and I have some scheme ideas on my mind..

This one was finished back in 2014. Eagle Cals EC#132 2nd profile. MDC Weels, Finemolds harnesses.
This aircraft was shot down by P-38s right after Langer's crew painted the slogan YOU NOT! on the HStab. Langer bailed out to safety and after that he ordered his crew not painting any slogans anymore.
I represented the aircraft 2 missions before he was shot down, because that slogan did not look good. Too sporty, not in a good sense though.

This one was completed back in 2014. Eagle Cals George Preddy's markings depicted as 14th of June 1944. This is the famous mount becoming an Ace in a single mission shooting down 5 enemy aircraft.
Metallic finish using Tamiya AS-12 straight from the can on the wings, as per manufacturing specs wings were puttied, primed and painted due to aerodynamics constraints.
Flaps, fuselage, HStab painted with Alclad II.
Hexagonal thread tires from Barracuda.
Propeller blades, over sprayed with Bodney Blue Nose paint as shown in actual pictures of the real aircraft.
Enjoyable kit, superb quality.

Here another one I built back in 2014. Enjoyable kit as the whole series released by Tamiya.
Built mostly OOB except for the Barracuda 3 spoke wheels post war tires thread and Lifelike decals 32-011 representing the participation in the Cooper Air Race in 1949.
Painted with Tamiya acrylics paints.

Revell Bf109 G6 might have been Erich Hartmann backup aircraft
Hello folks,
First of all Merry Christmas to you all.
Just joined this forum. Great modellers as I could see in several topics.
I built this kit back in Dec 2013. The subject is based on Eagle Cals depicting the number 1 of Erich Hartmann with a little red colour number 2 inside. The reference indicates that this might have been the backup aircraft of Erich Hartmann in which he achieved his victory number 250th.
Special characteristic of this scheme is the mottling over the wings and HStab. I based this on what Eagle Cals is depicting, as there are no pictures available of the real aircraft, other modeller could have interpreted this scheme in a different way. That is the way I wanted to represent it and I'm pretty happy with the result.
I only added a few aftermarket items as the cockpit is already of a very good detail:
