PanzerWomble Posted January 8 Posted January 8 So , this year I've decided to work my stash down to 10 ....yes just ten boxes ...instead of the 20 that is my norm . Ten is about a years worth of modelling unless I get really bored , it varies between 10/20 completions a year dependant on other projects, motorbikes , cars etc. Too many models bought on a whim , or because they were on offer, or for "nostalgia" , or because I had an bright idea at 3 in the morning 💡only to be 'Bayed 6 months later. I'm also a bit bored doing similar subjects repetitively . I've also set myself the task of one in - one out , so a bit like my yoof ; when you finished one and then thought about the next purchase , unless it was Christmas in which case you might have a few hanging around . I know this is anathema to the SABLE people , or "got to get them all" collectors, and that's fine if that's your thing , I'm not looking to convert or argue with anyone, just sharing my own journey . FYI - On my shelf of finished models, is equally sparse , I only keep what I think of as 'best of the best' for me with the odd exception, so that's 14 in total , make something better ?..one goes . Last year I went with 'no tooling from 19XX' and mostly stuck to it & also 'no Airflups, Miniart or Revell' for ...reasons . I'll let you know how it went next January if ya bothered. Laterz PW 5
PanzerWomble Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 Just in case yer interested ..... I finally worked through some SOD builds and cleared the stash of unbuilt models down to 9 (inc one last SOD left ) ; leaving just £300 tied up in the stash . So far this year, only one new one bought against my "rule" (Zis) , and what is now left in the stash was acquired in 2023 and 2025, so nothing at the back I've been ignoring for years or lost interest in . Halved the display case space as well , making me think more about what it is I do want to keep more than a month or so . Feels kinda liberating in all honesty . I have small stack of modals that I have a hankering to build , having sold on unmade a lot of things bought on a whim . Now I'm choosing a next build from a list of A grade stuff rather than , "I bought that cheap so should make it next", or embarking on a series of similar subjects, or worse.... dumbass nostalgia builds. Also got a bit bored with repeating the same subject matter ...another German tank ....another 1/48 WW2 fighter etc Sure I'll make them again , but going to be more selective in what I choose to buy/build this year, and what new skills I want to learn . And continually looking for inspiration from other modellers out there for that elusive 'something different' I've not done before . Just sharing . 3
