Whats the thoughts regarding painting canopies - attach then paint or paint then attach ? I used to paint the canopies then join .....then I found it was better to get a really seamelss join and then paint ...but recently have had issues with this method so curious to know what works for you .

Windshields, I always attach them first, then fill and smooth joints, mask and paint them with the rest of the airframe, sliding or hinged/folding canopies are done separately, masked and mounted with a big blob of Blu Tac and then painted. With the latter I use masking tape and sponge to protect the cockpit internels.

If folding/hinged canopies are a good fit I sometimes paint them attached to the airframe.

Thanks Dennis. I think that's what I did on the phantom , sort of both of best worlds . 👍

This B25 is tricksy though !

Depends on the model, and a host of factors, for example: how good is the kit's fit? Are you depicting an open or closed canopy? Is the glazing a canopy, or more flight-deck windows (eg B-17 cockpit)?

I'd suggest there's no point in making a hard and fast rule, it has to be decided on a model-by-model basis.

Depends on the model, the scale. The tiny 1/72 109's I posted here were asked in situ, being difficult to handle otherwise.

It all depends on the model. There's no one answer.
