Copper pipes in Spitfire engine bay - painted green?

Hi guys,

For the distinctive copper pipes seen in Spitfire (I'd doing the Tamiya Mk IXc early), Tamiya specifies to paint them XF-71 green. I often see these unpainted in photos of warbirds and builds online. Does anyone know (Edgar?) whether these were actually painted on a wartime Mk IXc? Say Johnny Johnson's JE J?

Thanks guys

Rebuilds can not be used for reference if you want to go the authentic route. But what's the use of painting cooling pipes that get hot

(and the paint flakes off) and a life expectancy of the aircraft of a few months. During wreck recovery I have never seen a painted

cooling pipe. You can have it both ways I think. But Edgar might confirm.

Edgaaar!!!!

Cheers
