RalphSarc
Building the suspension and lower hull parts. It's amazing to complexity of the German tank suspension over the American and Russian tanks.

RalphSarc
Work continued today on another very nice Tamiya kit. With the exception of a few misplaced injector pin marks the kit has been trouble free.I really do enjoy these armor builds, lol!!
RalphSarc
Wow this is a speed build, lol!! Just got the hull and side armor back from the paint shop. Will do the pre-shading tomorrow.
BlackRoger
What a classic old kit. I never built this one but my friend did back in the seventies. I'd be interested to know if you think the kit has aged much. Moulds tend to deteriorate over time and edges and details tend to soften up a bit. Still looks pretty crisp from here despite its age. Great looking build so far. Have fun! PS. Is that a block of concrete I see simulated in front of the driver's station?? I've seen photos of concrete used as appliqué armour. If so...Tamiya are well on the ball. Maybe this is new tooling??

You know Black Tamya must practice exceptional care with their molds because this kit is beautiful like all the other Tamiya armor I’ve had the pleasure to build. Yes both concrete used as applique armor are still included in the kit! I used the one fronting the drivers section however did use the one on the other side. Really great little kit!!!
wemattson
Ralph, You're really tempting me to get into armor. That's if I ever finish my Tamiya Spitfire!. I'm really enjoying your builds. Wayne

I like building armour a lot...despite liking aircraft more, I think I'm better at armour. The Stug. series is a fascinating collection of vehicles and make for great modelling subjects. The only thing that would turn me off this kit is the thickness of the side skirts and the machine gun shield. All easily fixed with PE I suppose but after building a few Dragon kits, it's hard to go back unless Dragon just don't kit what you want. Having said that...I can think of at least one instance (Soviet JS 2) where the Tamiya kit is superior.

That's funny Black as I'm starting to think I build better armor to or maybe it's because I enjoy it more, lol!! I'm look forward to trying a Meng or Dragon kit in the future. I've been shy to try building tracks but I've been a track virgin for too long, lol!!
RalphSarc
Dry brushing the hull with Tamiya XF-9 Hull Red and XF-1 Flat Black!! I enjoy dry brushing! Working on the road wheels now. Look at the complexity of the suspension system and road wheels!! Incredible!!! Road wheels installed, dry brushed with Tamiya XF127 Black Green and XF-10 Flat Brown, washed with both Flory Dark Dirt and Brown washes. Installed tracks and washed with both Flory Dark Dirt and Brown washes. Installed side armor and washed all possible splash surfaces with Flory a Brown wash!! And a dash of Vallejo Dark Red Oscuro for a hit of rust, lol!! All the pigments and washes had time to dry overnight and I'm really pleased with the effect!!!
