Impact marks on a sloped armor, in case they bounce off are more of an oval-like shape rather than circular. The less energy , the more irregularity of the impact mark. I would erase the black smudge and replace it with rust and graphite . -

A version is correct one for the Vietnam period, actually there are photos showing them being used in the eighties by ANG.
