So I just measured the engine diameter of the kit engine and it scales out to 43.232" (1,098.092 8mm) the actual P&W R-1830 should measure 48.062.5' (1,220.7875mm) which leaves a difference of 4.8350" (122 809mm) thats 2.4175" (61.4025mm) off in radius in 1/32 scale thats 1.92mm!!! Ouch!
The Trumpeter F4F P&W R-1830 (shown in the post above) will not fit in the cowling of the Hobbyboss B-24J
The Trumpeter F4F P&W R-1830 scales out correctly its 48.0625" in dia. Guess we're stuck using the crapy kit engines.

I'm back
So here is the engine from the Trumpeter F4F it's not bad, but needs work to make it into a B-24 engine.
First here are som pics of the sprue.
Here is what needs to be fixed.
Part before modifying.
What needs to be modified. Snip those off then add the prop pitch regulator. Engine still needs to have the valve rocker covers with oil return lines added (they are on the sprue), exhaust pipes, rear cover & plug wires (need to drill holes in the cylinders for them), etc. Some simple scratch building and one nice engine to have open for maintenance in a diorama.

The TSC4-G (R-1830-41) was 4' 0.0625" Dia. X 5' 3.48" lg. It was turbocharged simaliar to the B-17 engines. All of P&W twin row engines were called twin wasps. I'll check the measurements on the WB engines once I receive them in the mail. I still have to check the R-1830 I have from the Trumpeter F4F-3 to see how it measures up.

I almost forgot the brass barrels from Master for the HK B-17G will work for the Hobbyboss B-24 kit. I'm waiting for mine to show up in the mail. Also Squadron has resin wheels for the B-24 also the resin wheels that Eduard makes for the HK B-17 will work on the B-24. They used the same size tires and wheels you would still have to come up with the frt. tire or use the kit one.

Hey all
Some more info
This is a P&W R-1830 radial engine
That is the prop pitch regulator.
You can get Vector resin R-1830's for around $30.00 bucks that works out to $120.00 for (4) of em.
I ordered 4 of these from a place on scale mates. They are the old Williams brothers 1/32 double wasps. Not very detailed but way better the what came in the Hobbyboss B-24.
I'll let you all know what there like when I get them in them mail. I have a 1/8 scale Williams brothers R-985 radial kit its pretty detailed even has plug wires and spark plugs. It's baried in my stash, but if I can find it I'll post some pictures.

Hey all
Just a thought on my part. The engines in the B-24's were P&W R-1830 dual 7 cylinder radials.
The ones in the kit are a pretty poor representation of them. You can get resin replacements for them, but they are expensive. I found out that the B-24, DC3 and the Grumman Wildcat all had the same engines. So I went on the internet and found on Ebay the engine sprue for Trumpeters 1/32 Wildcat kit for I belive $17.00 bucks. It's fairly well detailed, the only thing that needs to change from the Wildcat to the Liberator engine is the front gear case, it has twin magnetos and the engines in the Lib only had a prop pitch regulator on the top of the gear case. The magnetos were on the rear of the engine. Its a simple fix, snip, snip some filling and sanding and adding the prop regulator.
I'm working on it know when I get to a point I'll show pictures of what I'm talking about. You can Google the R-1830 and see the photos. And Wikipedia will show the P&W R-1830 and show which planes had them.

This set is absolutely amazing. I think its even better then Eduard. And Nige I saw your videos on YouTube and they show the detail of the product well, which my help someone make the decision to spend the money it takes to purchace one of these large kits.

As spotted by someone on Britmodeller, the main gear has the safety supports fitted during major maintemance moulded in. I'm sure these can simply be removed along with any associated bracketry. https://www.facebook.com/groups/LancAssemblyLine/permalink/1792148920894059/
I also read that the Tamiya kit has an issue with bomb bay depth, making the cookie too small. I measured mine tonight and can report the length and O/D of the cookie are just over 1mm each too small.. nothing at all to worry about.
Hey Nigel
Could you post a picture of what you are talking about with landing gear. I don't do facebook. I have only looked at my kit when I opened it Christmas morning, so haven't had a chance to thourally go through it.

Fantastic job James
I'll be lurking around on this one to see how you do, it seems you have this one in the bag. I have the kit and Petes instrument panel kit also the gun barrels. Waiting to find out what else I will need to finish this magnificent big bird. I'm going to be doing ME669 ZN-O Sgt. Norman C. Jacksons plane. I have somebody making me code letter & serial number masks. So keep up the great work we are all waiting with batted breath.

Hey all
Got the Hobbyboss 1/32 B-24J & the HKM 1/32 Lancaster mk1 and a Tamiya 1/32 A6M2 Zero. Also got the brass machine gun barrels for the Lanc also airscales dash panel kit for it and realistic metal exhaust for the zero.

I had to preorder them to get the deal. Which he said when I ordered them was $149 for the B-24 & $219.00 for the Lanc. When he called and said they were in he said that his importer gave him the wrong price, and said that the Lanc would be $379.00!!! I said thats not what you told me we went round and round he said the best he could do was $245 which was still $144.00 cheaper then the lowest price I could find on the internet plus a two to three week wait. So I said yes and the wife stopped by and got them had to wait two weeks till Christmas to open em but it was well worth it.

I’m loving this. I’m going to pull the lever on mine in a week or so as soon as I wrap up all my Christmas obligations here.
From what I can see, we Stateside are better off going through Hannants and paying the shipping. It’ll still land here 50 bucks cheaper than what it sells for here. I usually do 3 or 4 orders a year from Hannants, mostly cool Eastern European and Russian cottage industry stuff that’s hard to get here unless you want to spend days chasing down the hundreds of little garage A.M. manufacturers throughout Eastern Europe. Hannants make it easy.. all in one spot. The Big Lib gives me the excuse for one more order.
Hey Clunky
I got mine at a local brick & mortar hobby shop here in Michigan. The B-24 was $149.00 and the Lanc was $245.00 so $394.00 total out the door! The wife got them for me for Christmas. I've looked at both, but haven't started them yet, still have 20 other 1/32 kits to do before I start on them (I also need to find a place to put em). Was disappointed with the Hobbyboss B-24 frt. & rr. turrets, but it won't stop me from building it. Going to try and polish out the frt. and fix the joint issue on both. To bad all Hobbyboss had to do was create them like the top turret and there wouldn't be an issue. The Lancaster is amazing, four merlins to build and detail!!! I got the brass gun barrels for it, also picked up a set of the ones for HK's B-17G there the same as the B-24.
Happy holidays Ron G.
