Extracolour Matt Varnish.

All.
Having just finished the decals on my P38, I need to seal them before weathering. I used Extracolour enamels and found I had a new bottle (albeit 20 years old) of Xtracolour Matt varnish. I think using acrylic varnish over the the top is a no no………so if I use the Xtracolour varnish does anyone know the thinning ratio. I presume use white spirit?

Thanks in advance…..

I use Xtracolor's own thinner and the thinning ratio makes a big difference to how matt the finish is currently I am using a 2 to 1 mix thinners to varnish.

Thanks Dennis, Unfortunately I do not have their thinners as I use white spirits as they suggest for their paint range. Would white spirits work?……….

Never tried it but others have and it seems to work fine, the varnish is quite thick and requires some serious stirring though.

To report that the varnish went down a treat. I pulled out my old cheap Chinese airbrush and put a 0.5 into it. With a ratio of 2 to 1 it sprayed perfectly……….looks great IMHO and now a good base for weathering…….may use this over acrylic (Vallejo) in the future if it works over a different base……

Thank goodness for that.
