sandbagger Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Hi all, I'm waiting for rigging materials for the Pfalz D.VIII I'm building. So I thought I'd start researching the next model. This will be the 'Wingnut Wings' Rumpler C.IV (early), Serial No.8518/16 of Flieger-Abteilung (FA) 209 during 1917. (FA) 209 was an observation and reconnaissance unit and operated on the Western Front, including Verdun. During the early part of the war, Feldflieger Abteilungen (Field Flier Detachments), the initial observation units, typically had six two-seat aircraft, either monoplanes or biplanes. Mike 4
sandbagger Posted May 7 Author Posted May 7 Hi all, I've been waiting for turnbuckles to arrived so I can finish the Pfalz D.VIII model. Finally, after being held bu UPS customs, they have now been delivered. In the meantime I've been working on the Rumpler cockpit. I've added a few things, rudder bar foot straps, rudder, aileron and elevator control lines and switch levers to the pilots instrument panel. It's all yet to be weathered before I close up the fuselage. So it's back onto the Pfalz model now, Mike 7
sandbagger Posted May 13 Author Posted May 13 Hi all, The fuselage is ready to be closed up. I've added ignition leads and plugs to the engine. In addition the two pipes fitted to the air pump at the front of the engine. The fitted engine driven generator has a drive belt fitted, made from EZ heavy black line. Mike 4
sandbagger Posted Saturday at 04:30 PM Author Posted Saturday at 04:30 PM Hi all, I've been moving along with the Rumpler C.IV build. The model parts have been airbrushed using Tamiya acrylic and MRP lacquer paints. The ‘Aviattic’ Linen Weave Effect (ATT32236) decal has been cut and applied. Also the detail parts around the observers cockpit have been added. Now it's onto applying a clear coat for subsequent weathering to be applied, Mike 5
sandbagger Posted Sunday at 08:11 PM Author Posted Sunday at 08:11 PM Hi all, I've weathered the model using Flory Models clay wash (Dark Dirt and Grime). Also sponging on Tamiya Weathering Master (Mud and Soot). The lower wings and tailplane have been fitted to the fuselage. Now it's onto pre-rigging before assembly continues, Mike 3
sandbagger Posted Monday at 08:32 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:32 PM Hi all, The upper wing temporarily fitted to allow the cemented interplane struts to fully set in the lower wings. Then I'll remove the upper wing to pre-rig it, Mike 2
sandbagger Posted Tuesday at 09:54 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 09:54 PM Hi all, The pre-rigging stage is complete. A combination of: Gaspatch 1:48th scale metal Anchor Points and Type A turnbuckles. Albion Alloy's 0.4 mm and 0.5 mm blackened Brass tube. 0.08 mm and 0.12 mm diameter mono-filament. Next is to final fit the upper wing so final rigging can be carried out, Mike 4
