Sorry to hear about the Yellow 6 decals, you can have mine though as I don't plan on using them. If I change my mind I think I can get new ones anyway. :-) Nice to see this bird in blue numbers! Adds a nice touch of color! PM me regarding the 6's... -

That's looking very good! I'm following this with great interest! No pressure, I'm only trying to help! BTW - something many seems to get wrong are the upper wing crosses, the smaller version as used on Black 22 and others should be placed further out on the wing, in the position shown on the right hand side of the top view instructions. /Anders -

I already mentioned it in the PM but if others are interested, the questions around this aircraft and the colours of Erla aircraft read the two first posts on my blog that comes up under the "Barracuda" tag. http://theprofilepaintshop.blogspot.se/search/label/Barracudacals /Anders -
1/32 Revell Bf 109G-10 Erla build
Cpt_Farrel replied to Beychevelle's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
That's looking great and it will be cool to see this one finished! As a third of the prop was painted white I'm very confident that the spinner was 70 as it was a factory standard. Regarding the yellow, in one of the photos it's clear that the demarcation line goes right through the rear small air intake on the cowling and I did it the same in the profile, it's possible that the intake is in the wrong place though, good drawings are hard to find! The second photo of this aircraft is not widely published but if you're interested just PM me and I'll dig it out for you. (I guess you've seen the one taken from the front of the aircraft?) / Anders -

1/32 A.M.U.R. Reaver Correction set for Revell Bf 109G-5/6/14
Cpt_Farrel replied to Mikester's topic in Aircraft Reviews
Both the AMUR set and the original kit has everything you'll need for a G-5 except the special head armour used on all 109's with pressurised cockpits. There's none available but they should be easy enough to scratch build. Nice rewview BTW, I've ordered the Erla version and I'm waiting impatiently. -
That's really nice to see step by step. Interesting (and good to know) that it in my opinion looks over done in stage 3 but perfect in stage 4 once the details are painted. /Anders

This is my Hasegawa 1/48 Hurricane Mk I built almost OOTB. I found the build quite trouble free and a lot easier than dealing with the Italeri kit. I didn't like the line from the windscreen to the spinner as it looked to straight to me. I sanded it down some and replaced the nose bulges that had to go when I tried to fix the shape. The shape problem seems to be most visible with the De Havilland spinner that I used, I checked my second kit and with the Rotol spinner on, especially with the oil collector ring, the shape does look better. The model is painted with Vallejo and Tamiya for the black and white, Games Workshop Mithril silver and then Xtracrylix Dark Green and Dark Earth. I really liked the look of the Xtracrylix colors. I faded the dark green with Tamiya RLM Grey and the Dark Earth with Tamiya Buff. Additional weathering was done by post shading and silver pencil. I also used Tamiya Buff to simulate the light staining from the exhaust and I think it worked nicely. Decals are mainly Aviaeology but the code letters are from xtradecal. I used Italeri decals for the under wing roundels. This aircraft has been captioned differently in various publications but given the combination of markings the most likely timeframe would be the last weeks of May of early June 1940. Still a fitting aircraft to post given the date! /Anders

1/32 Revell Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 Erla

Yes, so it seems, I guess with a light grey backing they made sure that the stencils would always be visible and readable. -

Just read the passage about the light background of the stencils, That is not the result of a repaint and a masked background, the stencils were applied as decals and these decals had light grey background which stands out as a masked RLM 76. This was standard practice at Erla before the production of the G-10 even began, it's often most clearly evident above the pilots hand hold behind the canopy. -
Eduard 1/48 Bf109E-4 as a Battle of Britain Jabo from JG26

Thanks! Yes, it's EZ-line for the wire. I'm used to stretched sprue and this seems to require a slightly different approach so I'm learning... /Anders -
Eduard 1/48 Bf109E-4 as a Battle of Britain Jabo from JG26
Cpt_Farrel posted a topic in Non LSM 'WIP
I finally managed to finish a model! My workbench has been packed up for over a year due to a house rebuild but since a couple of weeks I'm back in full swing. This Eduard Bf109E-4 was just about ready for paint last year but I had to wait until now to finish it. It's all painted in AK Interactive paints except for the yellow RLM 04 which is from Xtracrylix. Weathering was done with load of different techniques, I used a lot of pigments that I thought turned out a little harsch so I misted the weathering with the camouflage colors and ended up with something that I was quite happy with. Anyway, it's time to post some pics! /Anders -
1/32 Revell Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 Erla
Cpt_Farrel replied to Mikester's topic in Aircraft Reviews
Nice review! And big thanks for the link! Regarding the landing gear legs and their break down, I just assembled mine and the engineering immediately made sense to me. With the parts break down, Revell has set up the possibility to change the angle between the tire and the gear leg which in real life was done between the G-2 and G-4. So if Revell does release an earlier version they can just replace the small lower part and be AFAIK the first company to get the angle right on both a G-6 and an earlier G/F in 1/32. -
That's just beautiful! Fine photography as well. What colors did you use? They're looking great. /Anders

Sorry for the confusion, I meant that 66 could be the darker upper color instead of 74, not to mix 66 with the 75. When I read my previous post I realise it could be interpreted like that.

That's looking great! Really impressive work. Following this one with great interest. A while back I did a profile of Maxis' aircraft that soon enough was proven wrong when I received an email with pictures from the recovery. Turns out it was painted in greys but with greater contrast than a regular 74/75 scheme. Could be a pale 75 with 66 or something else entirely. So FWIW, here's a link to my profile of it. http://theprofilepaintshop.blogspot.se/2013/11/bf109g-14as-flown-by-herbert-maxis.html?m=0 Cheers Anders

Great work as usual Ralph! I really like it. I'm glad you picked it up and finished it as I recall that it was quite some time since you started it. I know the Wnr is given as 415601 in a lot of sources but such a number did not exist. RAF had another G-14 at Farnborough that was 413601 but it was never repainted in RAF colors so that's not it either . A 465xxx range aircraft seems more likely IMHO. The number isn't repeated on the model so I guess it doesn't matter much. :-) Cheers / Anders

Mikester, Black 12 was flown by JG2 and based in France, but in 1943.

There's this: http://theprofilepaintshop.blogspot.se/2013/09/jg3-bf109g-6s-in-normandie-with-green.html?m=0 It could easily be built using the decals for an earlier 9./JG3 G-6 marked yellow 6, the famous one with the eyes painted on the gun bulges. I know Eagle Cals does the aircraft and I'm sure others do too. The yellow 6 on my blog is illustrated with the battery box on the rear bulkhead which is an error or oversight, I'll be fixing it when I get the time. /Anders

Revell 1:32 Bf 109G-10 "Erla"
Cpt_Farrel replied to Reelo's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
There seems to be some large fuselage crosses spread out during the production time, but I've only seen large upper wing crosses on early ones which would make the 490 range likely. One should never say nerver when it comes to Luftwaffe stuff though. The saw toothed camo was gone by the time the G-10 entered production but sometimes the flowing lines of the basic wing pattern was sprayed very angular which created a stepped demarcation line that somewhat resembled the saw tooth pattern although the steps were much larger. The same can sometimes be seen on the fuselages. -

Cpt_Farrel replied to Reelo's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Yes, I've done a profile of the aircraft and one thing I can't decide on is the size of the fuselage cross. The earliest Erla G-10's had regular sized crosses while the later ones had a smaller version, around 800mm in size rather than 900mm. If the cross is the larger version then the under surfaces were most certainly all RLM 76. In my latest rendition I used a small fuselage cross but I'm having doubts again... Anyway, the top camouflage is likely RLM 74/75 rather than 75 and dark green. Here's my take on it. http://theprofilepaintshop.blogspot.se/2011/09/erich-hartmanns-bf109g-10.html Anders EDIT: I've been staring at the fuselage cross so much that I failed to notice the wing crosses in standard size and position which certainly could be a hint at an early example with all RLM 76 under surfaces. Better update that profile again! -
