  1. Paul,

One more thing here, not sure if the Kits World decals are accurate for the time frame of this event.  At the time of this event, Stigler was assigned to 6./JG 27 (II Gruppe) which would have had a horizontal bar aft of the Balkankreuz not the "welle" as portrayed.  It appears that the aircraft on the decal sheet is actually based on a photo from later date when Stigler was assigned to 12./JG 27.

    Mike,

    Thanks.

  2. Welcome Dagovee. I will say that WNW kits go together very, very well, almost too well if that is possible. Some parts go together without the need for glue.Easy to build and the instructions are superb. That leaves more time for detailing and finishing.

You'll find our forum one of the best, welcome again.

  3. Thanks everyone for your comments. Looks like that is what I will do. I will post a WIP when I start this. I do have 2 1/48 B-17's I could do up as the shot up version of Ye Olde Pub. Not 100% sure yet. Either way, this was a story that needs remembering.

BTW - "A Higher Call" is on my wish list for Fathers Day!

Perhaps purchasing the Kits World 1:72 decals KW172054 and forward to Precision Masks and Joe will hit those masks spot on for you.  Somewhat expensive, but you get the markings right the first round.

Rick, this book brought tears to my eyes more than once. To read first hand that experience from both sides was extremely gratifying. But! To realize that the Luftwaffe was nowhere like the rest of the Nazi regime was an eye opener. You won't be disappointed.

  4. I just got done reading "A Higher Call". What an awesome book and a story of an awesome post war friendship. So, I just bought Trumpeters Me109 G6 kit. I want to do it up as Franz Stiglers "Yellow 2" from JG 27. I cannot find any decals for this aircraft. Does anyone know of any source for these markings? I will also be doing the 1/32 B-17 as "Ye Olde Pub" when HK's kit hits the market. I will need decals for this also. I will be building this kit as it was before the fateful encounter. So, again, does anyone know of sources for these decals? Thanks in advance for any help provided.

  5. The admin on this site seem to be very hip to all the cool stuff floating around out there pertaining to our hobby. But just in case, here is a little something new. I just bought Vol. 1 & 2 and here is a link to Vol. 1, Tank Art, German Armor. This book looks wonderful with it's tutorials and awesome pictures showing painting and weathering techniques. Volume 2 constitutes American armor. There will be a total of 8 volumes.

  6. Thanks James, I had a pretty good idea how good this kit is after seeing some of the stuff that has been posted so far on here. Beautiful pit so far, by the way. ZM's aftermarket does seem a bit pricey though.

Rick, I agree. I also have the Revell kit and would build that accordingly. I may spring for the ZM kit. Still contemplating whether the HK B-17 is worth it too because it would be extremely hard to justify both.

    Thanks again Gentlemen,

  7. I have a question concerning this kit and it may be a stupid one. Is this kit expansive enough to build out of box? The reason I ask is the abundance of "optional" parts being offered. Does the kit itself offer adequate coverage of parts sufficiently enough to not need any of the optional parts? At almost $200, it should and with wheels costing an extra $36 and guns, for christ sake, costing $24, is the kit itself good enough. I just got an email offering another pre-order with the kit and bonus figures of pilot, co-pilot and navigation lamps for $191. In your opinion, is this kit worth the money? From what I see on this post, maybe. I need good answers.

    Thanks,Paul

  9. Thanks everyone. Actually, I should have learned from this one but obviously didn't. This was done in 2008 and as my more recent work shows, I am still nervous about weathering. Figure that one out, LOL.  :wallbash: This was NOT pre-shaded. This was a post paint job wash with Burnt Sienna diluted with 90% thinner over a clear spray. Then it was matte coated.

  10. There is the issue of the "new" front end of Photobucket versus the "classic" version. When you find the links in the new version, if you click on the field, it automatically copies the link. In the classic version you had to right click and pick copy to copy the info in the field. Hope this helps.

  11. nice stash and work area...love that drill press...meaning WANT.

Thanks Rick. That drill press is getting moved to make room for the spray booth I just built. It will get vented out that window above the DP. When I moved into that room it looked like it had all the room I needed. Haha, never the case. The table that U-boat box is sitting on is a very large table saw, that must go out into the basement area. Then I will feel more comfortable.
