As for my decal tweezers, that's easy. They're just to the left of the He219 wing behind the Mr Surfacer 500.

Better a cluttered desk and a clear mind, than the other way 'round...

Meanwhile, I think I've discovered why the Cat's always at the bench?

    More updates ???.....harv

Not much to speak of Harv...

I hit a snag with the piping and wiring of the front bank of cylinders. The p/e supplied by Eduard for the spark plug wires is flat in cross-section and attaches behind the ring of the crankcase cover instead of atop it. This is the real thing, showing the hexagonal attachment points of the spark wires.

I have purchased some miniature Taurus bolt heads, and intend to update the area so that it looks more realistic. Meanwhile, some .4mm tubing and 1/24th scale spark plugs from the Auto side of the Hobby will go in place of the flat Eduard wires.

I have experimented with one of the spare cylinders, drilling out the moulded-in spark plugs ready to insert the new plug and wire combination. If all goes to plan, I will start on the finished cylinder row, and show the results as I progress.

  3. Without knowing the specifics...

And if I can allay your worries a little, my take is that if the Company has paid for the Medical (and you passed it) then they want you; otherwise they don't usually go to that expense unless they intend to put you on. I went through the same process, as I am now technically casual Labour Hire and not an Employee yet where I am now, so had to pass the Medical and Drug tests as well. I am 2/3rds through my 3 month probation, then after a year or so if they like you they offer you Permanent. So once you get a start, it's up to you to make a go if it and make yourself irreplaceable (if that even exists anymore). It was all a little Secret Squirrel for a while there before I heard anything, and I was starting to worry as I had to give a month's notice where I was. I only got the call on the Thursday before the Monday they wanted me to start... This is how Temp hire companies operate apparently, on a day to day basis.

And don't worry about your WIP planning... You'll have plenty of time to think about it in your off-time inside your Donga for a fortnight!

Don't be sorry friend. In Western Australia the unemployment rate is pretty low thanks to the State Premier utilising fear of the COVID to close the state borders and keep those pesky easterners out from taking our jobs ... I decided to do something about advancing my future and resigned with about 3 months + in Annual and Long Service Leave accruals ... In the first week afterward I did my Forklift licence ... and I was supposed to complete my HR (Heavy Rigid vehicle) licence also ... but the timeframe for completion and the expense got away from me ... so I really have to get back to it now.

I have a job lined up (I think) to do as a mining camp utility (cleaning etc) on a FIFO 2-on-1-off swing while I finish my HR licence and then apparently I'll be driving a bus up there ... and that's my entry point into a whole new world where the pay can be quite handsome :) ...

The relevance here is that ... once I've secured my FIFO job ... I'll have 7 days every 3 weeks to get cracking on a WIP ... I may even get to start it before I leave for my first swing!

    Rog :)

Make sure to get that licence this Financial Year if you can Rog...

The fee for the training, the test costs, and the actual licence itself (as well as the Forklift ticket) will all be a Tax deduction if you start at the Mines before July 1st. You may need that depending on how much of a payout you got, to offset the extra you might get slugged by the ATO.

I also changed jobs earlier this year. I realise it was a risk, and I was a little conflicted seeing how Phil and others have been affected through circumstances beyond their control. But it was the change I needed to address the final phase of my working life. I've seen too many Men in my situation stay longer than they should have in Transport, and end up sore and broken and unable to adapt to a new career when their bodies gave out on them.

Good luck with this new phase of your life Mate...

    ZM is impressing me.

    Revell is astonishing me.

Tamiya is making me scratch my head.

    That is surprising...

Because the Revell Fw-190 kit to me is a real head-scratcher. Wish Tamiya would do one...

I'm with you. Since my last heart attack, I've had zero interest in the bench. Very little motivation of anything really. I'm going to see some counseling for depression and anxiety.  I hope it works.....harv

Chin up Harv, you could always try Naked Twister...

No, not the game; it's where your house and all your clothes get blown away!

The worst part about 'The Acid Test' is it means the end of the Album.

Unable to model to the Chemical Brothers... Can't help but see the video clips in my head from tracks like 'Let Forever Be' or 'Star Guitar' . Those bloody Trains! Too distracting.

  8. India is getting blasted, because there is no widespread culture of hygiene there... My former workplace was of about 50% Indian heritage and had to put up signs in the toilets saying "Do not stand on the seats"; some of them at the height of the Pandemic were living in sharehouses and hot-bunking with others who would drive Cabs or Übers all night. Let me stress, this is not a criticism; if you're not shown or told the proper behaviour you can't be expected to just know it. It's like putting a member of the public at random in a cockpit and expecting them to know how to fly an aircraft. Many Indian Australians are among our best and brightest, however there also many from the lower Castes who still behave as they would in the Third World.

There is a gradual shift happening Worldwide towards covert Autocracy. Freedoms are gradually being restricted, aided largely by the Pandemic and "Social Justice" issues. This is a natural progression of the successful campaign against Anthropogenic Climate Change, and the active discrimination and even prosecution of Scientific dissenters. We are already witnessing the demonisation of anti-Vaxers and mask Protesters.

My final year of High School was 1984, and subsequently we had to read the Orwell novel of the same name and submit a treatise as an assessment. This is becoming a little too familiar for my liking.

  9. Political aspects of the Pandemic have risen to the top down here...

At the start of May, the Government put a stop to Australian Citizens and Residents returning from India, due to the current uncontrolled wave of infections there. There are said to be over 9000 Australian Citizens there currently, out of a population of around a million Australians who were either born in India or to Indian Parents... Roughly 1 in 25 of the general population.

Inevitably, there were calls of "Racism" from some quarters of the Indian Community and various Political figures. Not helping the situation were reports that Australians returning against the Government advice via third Nations such as Singapore or Doha would be fined and/or jailed under provision legislated last year. Strangely, there were no similar knee-jerk reactions from the Press when South Africa was placed on the no-travel list earlier in the Pandemic.

An Australian man who has been in India for over a year is taking the Federal Government to court to overturn the India Travel ban; this is all the more bizarre, as a number of my Work colleagues flew to India for Diwali and returned in November last year... Perhaps he just didn't want to leave India and return to the relative safety of Australia back last year when 4000 people weren't dying on a daily basis.

More people have died in the past week here from blood clots. It's still under ten total though, out of just over 2 million vaccinations. A Sydney man also caught the virus last week; they matched it to a man from New York who had been hospitalised 500 metres from the closest point near to where he had been, but are still missing the link between the two of them.

We are fortunate here that a single case is the worst thing the Authorities have to worry about. Wouldn't want to be in India.

In fact, some of the mould technology looks more like a kit from the 70's.

For example; this obvious step on the fuselage sides, looking like they've just sandwiched two pieces together rather than made a complete side in one attempt.

    IMG_20210503_115922.thumb.jpg.e4ffd7c82804f01ee4f18feb2747290c.jpg

Really bizarre for a kit from a mainstream Manufacturer in the 21st Century, especially as it doesn't appear on the earlier incarnations of these moulds.

  11. Newer, and a great basis for an Fw-190. But still not IMHO a vast improvement over the Hasegawa kits. In fact, some of the mould technology looks more like a kit from the 70's.

Last night I spent by ripping the rubber sound deadening sticker out of the back. The glue residue is everywhere.

Apologies Martin, we are told that more is more when it comes to applying the Sika Mastic. Rather too much than an inadequate coverage, especially when it's used in areas of water leakage. This factor also makes it especially difficult for assemblers when doing interiors, as it's really hard to get out of felts and carpets.

We're not meant to think about the consequences of taking it out.

There's a company making a electric "crate motor" that will basically fit wherever an LS small block does. It even has the same mounting points.

Yes, but you won't be able to squeeze the battery into the engine bay tho...
