A nice subject Phil. I have the Thunder Models tanks transporter version in the stash.

If I recall correctly, the IBG kit has an error with the windshield. The frame isn't rectangular as it should be. They may have corrected it though.

    Carl

Thanks Carl, I’ll stop immediately then…………….As nobody will want to follow such an inaccurate build…………end….

Nice Phil, I ever liked the Scammell and am eager to see, what you do with it. I have the artillery tractor version from Thunder and special plans, about what to do with it.

    Cheers Rob

Rob, I’m looking forward to this build, I grabbed the instructions off Scalemates for the Thunder Models to see there are any differences or stuff I could scratch build. How about this for your build, with Border doing 1/35 aircraft etc…..

  4. With the bench clear now, I had four projects which all needed finishing, it’s time to start something afresh. The stash is not large as some of you know, 22 in total so it took awhile to decide or not as the case maybe.

This will be new to me as I have never done wheeled recovery / crane vehicle, change is good. I bought this on eBay for significantly less that retail as at some point the box had got damp and smelt of it. Instructions are a little crinkled but decals, plastic and PE all good, the box has been junked. As a child in the 60’s you often saw these old warriors pulling fairgrounds around the country so remember them vividly.

From 1936, the British Army began to receive Pioneer heavy recovery vehicles. The first 43 delivered were designated the Pioneer SV1S and the Pioneer SV1T both with a 3-ton folding crane and lockers for recovery equipment and towing bars. Most of these early Pioneer recovery vehicles were lost with the BEF.

The Pioneer SV2S had a simpler redesigned extending crane that provided greater lifting height. It was Introduced in 1938 and remained in production throughout the war, with a total of 1,975 built by the end of the war.

Among the Pioneer's equipment was a pair of tracks that could be fitted over the two rear wheels, converting it temporarily into a half-track and giving greater traction on soft ground.

The last Pioneer recovery vehicle was not retired from the British Army until the 1980s in Belize.

Apparently these were highly sorted after by German and Russian armies alike and there are numerous pictures of Scammells under different management. Here is a picture of a Scammell in tandem with Famo pulling a loco…..

This is the first time I’ve built IBG, they are out of Poland and I believe been around since 2008. The plastic is of a hard nature with really slim injection tabs. The colour is that biege / orange reminds me of Tristar but not concerned. The mouldings are crisp and detail is so far very good, early days.

    Stay tuned……

I hesitated starting with the decaling, because something was nagging me. I didn´t like the oversprayed part of the body, where I dented the paintjob. Tiny marks were still visible and imperfections tend to sum up, specially with high shine car bodies. I wet sanded the area carefully and then resprayed again. And now, I felt, I´m ready for decaling.
There is no makers branding on the decal sheet, but the decals were of perfect quality. They are glossy, very opaque, not at all brittle and easy to apply, which made the not so easy task a lot more comfortable. I aligned the stripes more by eyesight, than measuring. The decals are overlapping the borders on the ends and where cutouts are and with perfect placement and some scalpel corner cuts, you wrap the decals around the bonnet and body edges, which of course looks better in the end. Until now, I used only lukewarm water with a drop of detergent for application and the decals behaved perfect, contouring around the edges by themselves after a while of drying. Today, I will evaluate some critical areas and may use some decaling fluids there.

And now the Cobra got it´s stripes :D

Looking amazing, eyeball Mk 1 is probably the most accurate even though the callipers say otherwise………

    Good morning everyone!

A small update on this model!

I chose to use only acrylic products for aging and dirt (so I could work at my desk at home and not on the garage workbench!).

    grizzly_envelhecido_rodas_1.thumb.JPG.d14bb25839b9ea7d8fdd1470f2a86e7b.JPGgrizzly_envelhecido_rodas_2.thumb.JPG.b28df26f182d29c9b051ecce58198de9.JPG

Using Vallejo acrylics diluted with water and a drop of dishwashing detergent, I applied thin layers of washes to create a dirty look, but not too much.

I focused more on the lower parts of the hull, where dirt deposits accumulate.

Meanwhile, I started working on the dirt on the wheels, but I needed to glue and align them to integrate them with the rest of the vehicle, so this is still an ongoing process.

I focused my attention on the base, specifically the tree, which will be the highest point. It was made with wire, then I applied a layer of super glue mixed with talcum powder and covered it with a layer of Mr Surface 1000.

I applied two layers of Vallejo (sorry, I didn’t note the exact reference) as a base brown.
I will apply the foliage to the branches and then continue with the painting and washes.

And that’s the progress on the model! :)

Completely missed this one, stunning build as Rob for the scale…….

Looks terrific but the price tag is an issue, for sure...

I would love to have one copy but not at 499€ plus shipping... But I would pay 200€/250€ for it even if it, for that, it had to come without the wooden box and figures... beautifull box but for me, useless...

Fran, you are right, I’m sure this will become another “collectors” item unfortunately………the printing and detail is exceptional…..

    Hello everyone!

I am 62 (born and raised in Canada ... 1962 ... now living in VT) and after a 40 break from building models, want to start back in.

I am a machinist by trade.  My wife is paralyzed from the shoulders down as the result of a diving accident when she was 12.  I work out of the house ... a kind of Mr Fix It.  I do a bit of this and a bit of that ... build electrical control panels ... fix tractors .... what ever pays the bills.  Plus I like to "play" ... I rebuilt a Jukebox a few years back (still have my old tube tester) ... build crystal radios ... rebuild phones ... rebuild an old Victrola (got it for free or it was going to the dump).

For the past couple years I have been pretending to be a carpenter, building a new workshop (4500 sq ft ... put every nail in by my self) ...

You can see some of my projects on my facebook pages:  Facebook - Michael Csele   Facebook - Vermont Country Workshop

Anyway, I have been collecting models for the past few years ... and have my eyes on a few more.  As soon as this shop is done, I plan to get back into the hobby.

One model that always interested me (as I was from Canada) was the Avro Arrow.  A few years back, I finally found one ... un-opened from the 1987 release.

When I did some research, I found there where 3 detail kits available for this model from Mastcasters.

I searched and searched ... I guessed they went out of business but could not find a trace of them.  And they found a post from April 1, 2023 on this forum (that is what brought me here) saying the owner (Jay Laverty) as going to jail for 5 years!

Does anyone know if someone picked up his molds or old inventory or continued the business or ????

I have also been trying to find an internal detail kit for a Revell Gemini Capsule (1/24) from LVM Studios ... seems they have gone out of business.  I found the external kit and the decals but not the photo etched interior parts.

I have my eyes on a few more "large" kits ... I sure I will have many many questions as I go along.

    Thanks!  Mike

Welcome Mike to LSM, lots of very good modellers here to answer all your questions so feel free and dive in……

Apologies, I actually forgot I'd started a WIP for this one, so there's quite a bit of progress.

This is where we're at - progress is fast as it falls together like Lego. Very little clean up needed and no filler so far. I can see why people are desperate for Eduard to do this in 1/32 as it would beat the old Trumpeter kits hands down.

Cockpit was done with the PE included in the kit and Mr Color Interior Turquoise Green which matches the old 'Soviet Vomit Green' pretty well to my eyes.

I'll try to remember to post more updates as I progress.

Looking good Gus, Six Nations will curtail benchtime today though , I suspect. Great game yesterday…….

A couple stalled projects have made a guest appearance on the bench.

Although technically they never left the bench and were just put to one side  but I digress.

You ought to run a competition on the exact number of stalled projects in the picture, just think it of keeping the grey cells moving for us greys…….

Unless this is a shameless hidden advertising (which some elements like the "bold" typeface, the fact that this is the first post of the member, the impeccable layout with functional links, etc. tend to indicate) ...

Not that it means Plaza Japan is not a good, bona fide, merchant site.

    Hubert

Didn’t confirm or deny the validity of the internet site, it was welcoming a new member……hmmmmm

I've ordered from Plaza Japan (this is the site, right?  multiple times and never had any issues. The products are high-quality (not knock-offs). They do ship from Japan so keep that in mind if you’re in a hurry, but they always shipped my order quickly. The timeframe was down to how long it takes to get from Japan to my house in the US. Overall, a great place to shop for collectors and I will definitely order from them again. Please check if this is their customer service email info@plazajapan.com. This FAQ page may also help you.

Welcome to LSM Andrew always good to see new faces.
