  1. Harv, think of it like this....picture a dirty rainbow with the inside edge of the rainbow being wet or dark mud..and last or outside portion of our dirt rainbow as light dry dust. The color range of the rainbow is a gradual decrease in the bottom color of the mud until you get to the very top...dust.

The smallest particles of dirt is dust, to simulate this you see armor guys (me included) spray a thin veil of Buff or Dust color first. This this the broadest range of color you can start with (all other colors will fall within this dust boundary). after that you can go with the darkest color and just like our dirty rainbow apply it via stippling to the lower surfaces.

The magic happens with the mid color between dark mud and light dust, this is flicked onto the model to give a smooth transition from dark to light.

I hope this makes sense I was struggling with the "dirty rainbow" imagery. :)

  2. Harv, work from dark to light.

If this is a the darkest you want to go, switch over to lighter color pigments or paint and flick the color on to it with a tooth brush.

Practice of course, but you'll have great fun doing it.

PS, you may even want to flick some same color paint first to better transition to the lighter dried mud effect.

    Thanks BC.

Its the recovery that shows the modellers strengths....or so I've been told.

And watching your Ships Camel build I can recommend the Prym for Royal Aircraft Factory stainless steel flat rigging. I used it to great effect on The Biff Piece:

This took three days after 3 weeks of concentrated failure with p/e shit. Paint it stainless with acrylics. I used p/e ends , but again needless complications. There may be better stuff now.

    Steve, what is Prym?

    Apparently

These guys are asking the question Do.17 or 217 ... and also apparently Heinz (the HpH whisperer) wants a He.177 ...

If any of you lot have clout in the Balkan regions .. or a least a voice ... now would be very timely to yell "Do.17z - BoB markings please!!"

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Rog :)

    Agreed.

My WNW panic buy was just four kits that could be found in Australia.  And that would only double my stash when the final three arrive.  I didn't buy as many because my interest is mainly limited to German stuff, and I don't need every version of D.VII made.  I also wasn't much into the larger two seaters, limiting my needs even more.

One of the things I loved about WNW was the potential for dreaming about what's next.  Maybe a nice Albatros D.III (I've already built the Roden version) or a Halberstadt D.II would have arrived one day.  I might have even broadened my horizons and built some Austrian stuff had they produced any.  And hey, the Germans even built copies of the Nieuport 17.  Or was it the 11, or both?

But I think they were too smart for their own good.  Relying on a gov't subsidy instead of being financially independent and selling what ppl wanted.  Eventually that subsidy would come back and bite them in the ass.  Imagine your stashes had their been SPAD's and OEFFAG Albatrosen!

I know some of you guys like the big bombers.  And there is a guy here making an awesome Gotha that makes me want to emulate it.  But I know I just don't have the stamina nor the display space.

I hope that someone buys all the moulds and pumps out the kits, even those "still in development".    I imagine the boxing and the directions won't be as nice.  I hope it doesn;t take too long!

    Gaz

Yes this part right here Gaz....

Now my focus is on the ZM offerings, but my two favs are ZM and WNW.
