  1. I’m building the airfix hellcat right now. It’s over on the “work in progress “ forum here on this site. Next up is the airfix typhoon and sitting next to it is the kenetic P-47 in 1/24.
  2. All told, 2 years
  3. Finally making progress on the engine, I removed the copper wire fuel transfer pipes and installed the kits plastic ones. Cut and placed the anzy braided ignition wites(which I may redo as the length seems too long). Here’s where I’m at. im sitting in my motorhome at the table working on the hellcat while my wife’s out for a forest run!
  4. A but more work in progress. Getting the engine together before detailing it out. I have anzy ignition cables ( might not use) and more fine painting to fo as well but the canvas is getting close! for the oil lines I’m using solid wire covered with heat shrink and rolled foil for hose clamps
  5. I grew up in Spokane!!
  6. I’m on Camano island, just north of Seattle both beautiful!! Less humidity here tho!!!
  7. Where are you located? Kinda looks like my view!!!
  8. It’s close to 1:95 I think… I tried to look at kits you can buy and decided they were out of scale with a lot of the details on them. I did need to buy some pieces that I couldn’t make like anchors and the maiden head, chain and dead head that I didn’t make, although I did end up making a lot of my dead heads out of doweling too. I traced the plans from the curry sark museum in England off my pc computer screen and they were about 1/95 or so. I know my masts ended up a little taller than they should be but no one will notice. It is 34-1/2 inches long and 25 inches high
  9. Thanks, I cut the sails from Indian muslin and then found that thin thread glued to them looked great as sew lines around the edge’s and vertically to look like the reinforcement lines.
  10. I have the same problem with my 1/24 scale aircraft builds too,, where to display them?? I have some hanging in my shop but they are covered with dust for sure😢
  11. I have a small make up blush brush I stole from my wife to TRY to keep the dust off. As you can see though from the pictures it’s very difficult! I looked at buying or making a glass/plex case and it was very expensive. However when something takes several years to complete it might be worth spending the money
  12. This is my cutty sark ship model I built a few years ago. My wife says a built it three times though. Not happy with the first thing, rebuild and learn from the second and finally get it right on the third! I would trace the real blueprints from the computer screen and then build the part as close to it as possible. I made all the pumps from washers and metal rods. I soldered the railings from my modeling brass and cut the sails from Indian cotton.the anti fouling copper is actually 2000 cut strips of copper snail repellent tape. I made the water keg’s from wood dowels. All raining and ratlines are hand tied. So much more
  13. I forgot the airfix mosquito too!! Haven’t really finished it tho. I’ll pull it down and get cracking on weathering it plus some other details. Filled some seams on the hellcat and I’m moving on to the engine!
  14. Hers a few more pics of progress on the hellcat… and a few pics of my other 1/24 scale airfix models, and one old Bandai 1/24 zero
  15. A quick little note: I made a leather document/map pouch tucked next to the seat!
  16. A little more progress on the instrument panel and cockpit . Made a hand held mike for the radio
  17. Just a bit more! Test fitting seat belts and fixing the radio wiring
  18. We’ll, I’ve built the airfix 1/24th p-51, fw190, bf109 and the mosquito. Now the big hellcat.. this seems like the best airfix 1/24 scale model they’ve made to date. I still have the car door typhoon under my bed yet to though so we’ll see!! Great forum.
