denders Posted October 7, 2024 Author Posted October 7, 2024 Thanks, Kevin! One more step done. Waiting for some flag decals. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to use them, but I want a flag flying. I showed the 4 1/2 yr. old grandson the previous photo and he said, "Cool". And then he said "Where's the helicopter?". I'm thinking on using a wire to have it flying. I've already drilled a hole in the bottom of the helicopter, just have to add it to the ship. But the additional rigging and the flag first. 5
denders Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 So, finally got the flag decals, now I'll have to work on that on the Pharris. I'm planning on having the rearmost hangar bay doors of Nimitz open on each side. While I'm not going to light the hangar bay, I wanted to have aircraft there to see when peering through. So, I'm building aircraft now, so I have the aircraft to put in the hangar deck before I put the flight deck on. Lots more tiny pieces. I've only started on the F-14s. Then there are A-7Es, A-6Es/KA-6Ds, E-2Cs, EA-6Bs, SH-3Hs, S-3As, and EA-3Bs. Most of the F-14s with wings spread will probably not be used. 5 1 1
GusMac Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Good grief, those are tiny. Not sure I'd have the patience to try and paint those. 2
denders Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 OKay, this part of the project is finally done. I finally got the flag rigged. And all of the aircraft for Nimitz are built. One of the 'fun' things is that the aircraft all have their wings extended, except for the F-14s, so, I had to cut off wing sections to make them folded. The next step for them is to paint them. The F-14s are half are extended, and half are swept which means that I won't use all of them in the final version. Another fun thing will be that not all aircraft in the photos in the cruise book are gray. Some are still in the light gull gray over white. Onward! 5
KevinM Posted June 18 Posted June 18 I need to get back to the Scharnhorst looking for the ending Dave. 2
denders Posted Friday at 01:53 AM Author Posted Friday at 01:53 AM This doesn't get worked on very often. I've been building aircraft because I want to put some in the hangar deck. Two of the doors will be open. And even though I'm not putting lights in there, I want folks to see something. I started with the EKA-3s because I'm only using two of them. They should be on the flight deck. Remember, they're 1/700. 4 1
Landlubber Mike Posted Friday at 02:30 PM Posted Friday at 02:30 PM Look great! Planes in 1/700 are no joke! 1

Landlubber Mike Posted Saturday at 01:39 PM Posted Saturday at 01:39 PM I'm working on an IJA aircraft carrier in 1/700 that carried autogyros and reconnaissance planes - they have to be assembled with probably a dozen parts each of PE. I think I went half blind trying to finish them. 3

A magnifier is necessary, and steadier hands would be nice. I have some PE deck handling equipment that are all PE. I guess I'll see how they turn out, whether they actually make it onto the model. 1

Yes, I use an optivisor, good lighting, and very precise tweezers. Still not easy! 2
