Really interesting. I see the inner slats are not completely straight and taper slightly. And now i see hoe the rails disappear inside the upper wing. I need to make some adjustments, but i know how i will make them. Thnx!

Bogus
Good to see this progressing well - very inspiring. There's a hi-tech boxing awaiting attention once I've finished my current build, so it'll be interesting to see how the cannon assembly goes together. Kent BoB Museum has a great FB page, and there's a lot of good reference material there, with the new build front fuse being displayed alongside Steve Vizard's recovered parts from P6966. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077001196765 The rest of the museum looks seriously interesting too.
Michaelscarborough
The level of research and tenacity shown here is inspiring. My High Tech boxing just arrived and it will be interesting to see how much of what you're doing I will be able to incorporate in my build. You're definitely a big step ahead of me with your capability to 3D print parts. Really enjoying following along. Cheers from NYC, Michael

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 3 Author Administrators Share Posted March 3 Today, after losing an Ebay battle over a sheet with four Whirlwind pilot signatures, I decided to look for more signatures. A few pilots lived many years after the war (Like Wing Commander J.E. McClure and Group Captain L.H. Bartlett). I managed to find a signed photo of the latter. He mainly flew Hurricanes, but also a Whirlwind (P7111) in which he damaged a Ju-88.
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 3 Author Administrators Share Posted March 3 Question for Gunnar When the outer slat is out. Will we see the main spar? I.e.: Will we see the vertical spar? And would that spar be smooth? Closed?

It would have been easier then to leave the leading edge on and craft / 3d print a new slat 😂 1
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 4 Author Administrators Share Posted March 4 Soo.. working on making the area beneath the slats proper. It’s actually good that i cut out this part. It allows me so set it back a mm and change the angle downward a little to accommodate the slat. If that makes sense. Now working on a 3d model of the slats.

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 8 Author Administrators Share Posted March 8 Leading edges under the outer slats are on again. I adjusted them a little so they now sit back a mm or so. Test printing the slats tomorrow.
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 10 Author Administrators Share Posted March 10 Just printed a few first tests. I prefer to print these vertically but that takes 10 hours. This angle takes only 3.

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 11 Author Administrators Share Posted March 11 Question for Gunnar: what colour would the leading edge be underneath the slats? I can’t imagine camo. Interior green? It was too early for yellow primer i guess? What do you think?

Interior green was used in the cockpit area, most other (interior) parts were painted silver. Since the slats were extended and the underlying surface was exposed, camouflage is the most logical choice. The rear flap was also painted with camouflage on top. 1

So that does make sense then… I will let the camo run underneath, but weather it less, since it was less exposed. Thnx!
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 12 Author Administrators Share Posted March 12 I need a little break from the wings. So I'm turning my attention to the control stick. Or spade grip. I'm going for the late style. I.e. any serial number from P.6984 and later. BUT! Not later than P.7054. Because after that the slats were fixated, and my model will have extended slats. First 3d steps...
