PeteF Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Hi folks, I finally retired and am going to do some model builds. I'm going to do it as a VLOG for this kit. Building it as-is out of the box. Figure you might have had similar experience that got you into modeling. I'd love to hear about them. I built a 1/24 scale Mosquito and a 1/24 Daimler Ferret that I document on here but it was a while ago. 6
ScottsGT Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Nice video! I built that kit years ago when I got back into models as well. Currently building the Hasegawa P-40E kit. 2
PeteF Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Here’s part 2. It’s slow going but a lot of fun to build a nice, but simple, kit out of the box. 3
PeteF Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 Part 3, I’m still ham fisted and break stuff LOL 3 1
PeteF Posted December 24, 2024 Author Posted December 24, 2024 Here's part 4. Spoiler: I didn't get it finished yet
CANicoll Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Don't you just LOVE old Revell/Monogram decals?

Lulled me into a false sense of security. But I think the damage was done on these because the paper curled so much.
KevinM Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 #3 popped on my YT last night watched it like your efforts with the gear and the ole graphite was new to me.

But I think the damage was done on these because the paper curled so much. That does put stress on the decal, but then the age just finishes them off. But if you can keep the paper flat, it helps. But I've still had decals shatter even after that. That's why when using old decals I start with the under-wing ones in case they don't work. Kind of hidden then. BTW, I could not tell from the video - did you put down a gloss coat before decaling? Happy Holidays!! Video build log. Very cool.
PeteF Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 I did put a gloss coat but only where I was going to put the decals. I’m not sure that sanding with 600 grit and finer wouldn’t have achieved the same thing, Still waiting on the replacement windshield but having fun with weathering for part 5. I’m using sandpaper more than anything else. 1 1
PeteF Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 Oh and someone referred me to this product. I’m going to try it with the trio of 1/48 Monogram white box kits I’m going to do next. https://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MI-12&Category_Code=FINPROD&Product_Count=6
Uraynah Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 My first kit was a 1/72 Spitfire, total mess, but I was hooked after that. 1
PeteF Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 Finished it today (finally). Should have the video out EOD Monday. 1 1

I keep forgetting I even have it, but I can see where it would be useful over old decals to keep them from fracturing. LMK.
