Pheon Decals 1:32 Fokker D.VIIs (OAW & Alb) of Jasta 18
Typhoonattack replied to James H's topic in Aircraft Reviews
I've purchased Pheon decals in the past, and they're really quite nice. I'll have to add these to the "must get" list. -
Looks like a very nice set.

Aviattic Lozenge Decal Sets – Faded and Factory Fresh
Typhoonattack replied to James H's topic in Aircraft Reviews
I may have to get some of these for my D.VII. Thanks for posting this. -
The Jasta Boelke banner is interesting. What's it from?

And now for the Crème de la Crème, the Fokker D.VII Anthology series from Albatros: 3 volumes on the iconic Fokker, considered by many to be the finest fighter plane of the war. Each book covers one of the three manufacturers of the D.VII; Fokker, Albatros and OAW, and are therefore, when combined, about as much data as the average modeler or aviation buff needs in order to get a handle on many of the subtle differences between these three manufacturers. Each volume is packed with splendid period photos, as well as more interesting and varied profile art. Link to Albatros Productions site is here.

And yet another title from Albatros, this time the Nieuport Flyers of the Lafayette: the story of American volunteer pilots flying in France during WWI. 40 odd pages of great period photos, punctuated with more great profile art, as is typical of this series. Nieuport types primarily featured: 10, 11, 16, 17, and 21. Good bang for the buck. Link to Albatros Productions site is here.

Nope, I'm LSP_Typhoonattack over there. And yes, postage would be a killer, for sure.

Another very interesting title from the prolific publishers at Albatros, the Pfalz D.XII at War; 40 pages that feature gobs of period photos, as well as several pages devoted to details of the type (from a craft undergoing restoration), all B/W. Not too many profiles here, but they're all top drawer, that's for sure. Handy reference if one wants to tackle the (newerish), kit of this version of the Pfalz fighter. Link to Albatros Productions site is here, but this particular book is no longer listed.

Sopwith Camel Squadrons, Albatros Productions
Typhoonattack posted a topic in WW1 Reference Material
And here we have another Albatros book, this time the Sopwith Camel Squadrons title, concerning,... Camels! If there was ever a need for you to know about the Sopwith Camel in service, this may well be the book for you. 57 pages of historical photographs and several pages devoted to profile art, covering everything from the mundane to the more colorful. Highly recommended, as are all Albatros Productions reference works. Link to Albatros Productions site is here. -
I could probably take one of these A-10's off your hands, Jack, that would free up a lot of room for you.

Two Osprey favorites that form part of the backbone of my D.VII references, these two volumes are jam packed with wonderful profile (and some plan), views, of what has to be my all time favorite WWI fighter. Also included in both volumes are a fairly decent amount of period photos. These, combined with the wealth of illustrations, covers most, if not all, of the Jastas that were equipped with the iconic D.VII. Link to Osprey Publishing site here and here.

Another Osprey book in the traditional "vs" style, this book is yet another that I find quite interesting. The two types (SPAD XIII and Fokker D.VII), are compared in several areas, weaponry, agility, speed, horsepower, etc. so that a reasonable comparison can be drawn between the two, weighing the pro's and con's of one against the other. The reader is left to draw his own conclusions as to which was superior. All in all, a fun way to look at these machines. Well illustrated and a fair amount of period photos as well. Fokker Dr.I Triplane, Classic Publications
Typhoonattack replied to Typhoonattack's topic in WW1 Reference Material
Amazon does, but they're priced pretty high. I hate when that happens, really. There are several books that I'd like to have, but are well out of my reach because of the inflated prices due to OOP status. -

I have no idea. Amazon or fleabay should have it though I'd think. -
Fokker Dr.I Triplane, Classic Publications
Typhoonattack replied to Typhoonattack's topic in WW1 Reference Material
It's an outstanding book, James. One of the last books I'd ever sell off as I thin my library considerably. -
This has to be one of the best all around books I've ever seen on the Triplane, (rivaled only by the Alex Imrie book from Arms and Armour Press), and should really be on the shelves of any WWI aviation, or Dr.I buff, as it is chocked wall to wall full of page after page of photos of the Triplane in a wartime environment. A classic design to be sure, one can easily become mesmerized by the beautiful lines of this WWI airplane as depicted in this book. Link to Classic Publications (Ian Allan), is located here.

Again, not a new book, but one that was acquired by me within the last year or so, the Fokker Dr.I Jagdstaffeln book by Albatros Productions. This has to be one of the coolest books I've seen on the Dr.I, at least in terms of the delightful illustrations by Ronny Bar, one of my favorite WWI profile artists. There are many, many profiles, all depicting various units that flew the venerable Triplane. Other artists have contributed as well, and the book is also sprinkled with very nice period photos. Yet another winner from the folks at Albatros. Purchasing this book is not something you'll regret. Link to Albatros Productions site is here.

Since I already had all four of these volumes as a photo in my computer, I decided to get lazy and cover all four at one. The following books, Albatros D.V/D.5a At War, Volumes 1 & 2, as well as the Fokker Eindecker Compendiums 1 & 2 are shown here, purchased some months ago when I was badly bitten by the WWI aviation bug. First off, the Albatros D.V/D.Va At War books are just what they appear to be, a large collection of period photos of the ubiquitous Albatros fighter in it's natural surroundings,... on the battlefield and in the air. The Fokker Eindecker Compendiums, Volumes 1 & 2 are much the same, depicting "The Fokker Scourge" in much the same manner,... at Aerodromes and in the air, featuring more photos of the early E series of fighters than I would have thought possible. All in all, each and every one of these four books from this publisher of the above listed types, is first rate, top notch and in my opinion worth every penny. Link to Albatros Productions is here.

Not normally my first choice in book types, the Kagero Fokker Dr.I book is outstanding for its computer generated renderings of this aircraft. When compared to factual data and photographs I've seen elsewhere, these illustrations seem very accurate indeed. For the money, I see this (somewhat newer), series as great value for money spent. Since this area of the site was empty yesterday, I thought I'd add a few books on my own for the general interest. To that end, I secured a copy of this Schiffer title on the Albatros D.II airframes some time back, and it's very good indeed, especially given the price. If you're a fan of the D.II, you'll be quite pleased with this volume, one of the few I've seen dedicated specifically to this version of the Albatros, though there are others. More on that later. Jasta 18, Osprey publishing
Typhoonattack replied to Typhoonattack's topic in WW1 Reference Material
Hard to go wrong with this book, Jeroen. Lots of period stuff, and those splendid red/white schemes, one of which I'd like to myself some day, though undoubtedly I'll pursue my favorite Jasta 21 machine first. -
Though not new by any stretch, this is one of the more recent offerings from Osprey that I've purchased. As the title suggests, this book covers specifically the machines of Jasta 18; Albatros, Pfalz, Fokkker Dr.I and of course the ubiquitous Fokker D.VII are all featured in some great profile art. If you like red and white schemes in particular, this is the book to get, IMO. Link to Osprey Publishing site here.
