Peterpools Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 I started to decal my Tamiya Spitfire today and the kit decals were old and cracked as soon as I started to apply them. To make matters worse, the EagleCal decals I bought were no better and proved to be unusable, as neither of the decals would conform and settle down over the underwing blisters. This a new ground for me and the only way out is to use paint masks, as there always is a first time. Located two sets of mask set on ebay, I Man Army DET 041. DN masks 2013 Either one should work. Will be ordering one of the sets by Monday. Just seems there is always something. 1
Spitfire Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 The 1 man army masks have been rated highly by people who have used them especially the smaller stencil masks, I have a set for a future Revell Hurricane build. Cheers Dennis 2

Like Spitfire said, the 1ManArmy masks are fantastic. I used them on two builds now and despite a lot of masking work, the results were fantastic. The stencils are very sharp and you don´t have the typical decal issues. It´s a lot of work, especially, when the stencils are multi colored. When applying the larger roundels, 1MA recommends using transparent transfer film for placement. I would strongly recommend doing so, especially on rounded surfaces like the fuselage sides. Peterpools Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 Thanks Dennis for the recommendation and going to order the masks today on ebay. 1
Peterpools Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 Rob Agreed, sounds as if it will solve all my issues. Is there a special type of transfer tape I need to buy as a quick look at Michael's Craft Store online (I have a real Michael's a few miles from the house) and there seems to be a boatload of types. 1

The first time, I used cello tape, because I had no sheets of transfer foil and it worked. Now I have bought some transparent adhesive foil sheet for that case. Cheers Rob 2
Peterpools Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 Thanks Rob ... I'll be out buying some tis week and getting ready when the masks show up. 1
Peterpools Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 Change of plans and one last try with a few decal sets I found in my stash: Eduard RAF decals printed in 2016 and for the most part, they work ☺️. Now ain't that something. 2
