belugawhaleman
I have projects coming up involving the use of Gunze GSI Creos Mr Color paints. And would appreciate any info as I'm not too familiar with them. Do they brush well (paint brush)? They are lacquer, I assume so leveling thinner would be used. I know the have a water based line, right? The manufacturer of these kits recommendeds these colors, so that's what'll use.
Landlubber Mike
I love their lacquer paints, haven't tried using their Aqueous line. Use Mr. Color Leveling Thinner - I usually go 1:1 or up to 1:2 paint to thinner. Personally, I found them to be very good paints that spray really well and leave a hard finish that you can sand if need be. I've never had their paint pull up from being taped. I'm trying to move more to Vallejo to stay with healthier acrylics, but find myself using Mr. Color more and more. They have a lot of colors, more so than Tamiya which makes finding the exact color call out very easy. I try not to brush paint with them, but only to do very minor touchups. Otherwise, I treat Mr. Color like Tamiya and use them in an airbrush. 1
AOE4
high quality paint, airbrushed with their lacquer paints, very durable, as good as Tamiya acrylic with Tamiya lacquer thinner. hand brushes well with Gunze lacquer thinner or their Mr leveling thinner. they also sell a separate lacquer paint retarder. Why no airbrushing?
AOE4
recent build with Tamiya lacquer paint, could have been just as good with Gunze lacquer paint. depends what color is more accurate for my project.
BlrwestSiR
Like the others have said, it's a very good quality paint. It's generally a bit thicker than Tamiya lacquers so might need a bit more thinning. The great thing is they offer FS colours without having to mix as well as other standardized paint colours. Gundam ones too! Most Japanese kit manufacturers list them as their recommended paint colours. Tamiya is the outlier of course since they're going to recommend their own line of paints. If you end up with a bottle that's overly thick,.you can add Mr Color Replenishing Agent to get it back to a normal consistency. Or just use one of their lacquer thinners. I have bottles that are 20 years old and still usable. 2 1
AOE4
whats the difference between replenishing agent and their lacquer thinner? Gunze info is sooooo obscure
BlrwestSiR
Here's what it says on the bottle: Compared to Mr Color Levelling Thinner, I think this won't affect the shelf life of the paint as much if at all. You could use Levelling Thinner to do the same but it may reduce the shelf life of the paint.
