JohnB Posted March 18 Posted March 18 It's time for another Tamiya Corsair build. This will be my subject. I plan to use a Quinta cockpit set on this one. Stay tuned! 6
Martinnfb Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Excellent choice John, this one is well documented. Will follow with interest. Cheers Martin 3

Martinnfb Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Nice, it almost looks like the number 12 has a black stripe on the top of the cowling. 1
JohnB Posted March 27 Author Posted March 27 I was making some good progress on the build until I managed to bugger up the Quinta instrument panel 🤪. Ordered a replacement Quinta set from SB on 3/23 but it hasn't showed up yet. Until it does I'll work on other areas. I plan to fold the wings so I guess that's what I'll work on for a bit. 7
Martinnfb Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Beautiful, I like the light weathering in the cockpit. Nicely done 2

I'm beginning to wonder just WHEN the replacement Quinta set will show up. PO tracking shows it hasn't been shipped yet but SB shows it HAS shipped. Go figure! Now it says delivering Monday 31st. Fingers crossed. 2
JohnB Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 Finally got the needed replacement Quinta instrument panel. Now I can proceed with the build. 4 1

JohnB Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 Making good progress now. The wings, canopy, etc are not attached. I just put them in place to see how they look, etc. 🙂 4
JohnB Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 If it's not one thing it's something else!!!! I was starting to mask off the areas on the tail to be painted white but when I pulled off a strip of masking tape to adjust the fit this little surprise happened. I then used masking tape to see just which areas might have this problem with the results you see here. I am NOT pleased!!! I tested the wings to see if there was going to be a problem there but there wasn't. I had painted the wings and other fuselage areas yesterday and then painted the rest of the model (underside and rear area) today. Same paint from same bottle. All I can figure is it has something to do with the amount of thinning I did as I had to use a bit more on this area than on the areas painted yesterday. The best thing to do at this point is to re-paint the problem area but use less thinner. Fingers and toes crossed. Choosing a different subject. 3
JohnB Posted April 4 Author Posted April 4 All repainted now but I'm not so sure I want to tempt it by masking off those areas. I'll look for a different scheme. 2
KUROK Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Even though that GSB gave you masking trouble, it sure is smooth. What is your brand on that? 1

KUROK Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I tried MM acryl late in the game...before they quit making it. I found that cutting it 50/50 with Future gave very good results. Also after about two days of curing time it was so hard I could not even scratch with my fingernail...probably due to the Future. 1

I was using MM enamel but ran out so I decided to use the acrylic on this build. I found 2 bottles of enamel on ebay the other day and snapped 'em up. Not delivered just yet though. If I can get another bottle of acrylic I'd test it out and if all went well I'd use it at some point since it gives such a nice smooth finish. 1
