Revell Spitfire Mk I, II or V

Recommended Posts

I have started on the new Revell Spitfire. So much talk about this kit but ever so few real builds. Those who have consider it to be a nice kit with an unbeatable price. So far I have put the wing and feathers together. Haven't made up my mind what mark it will be. Can be any of three. But chosing which has some effect on altering the kit parts. I will be using the Eduard interior set.

I might go for a Mk Va. Who knows. I do have sanded off the strange patches. Still need to restore the line. Anyway, crappy pic time.

Cheers

Cees

I am new to the forum, but have been reading and following it for some time. I have two of the  Revell Bf-109-G6 kits, and if this Spit is of equal quality and price I will be diving in.  I haven't built a large scale Spit since I was in college many moons ago.

I broke down and ordered the Spit yesterday. Couldn't wait any longer. I also ordered an HGW Sutton harness. I will eagerly be following this build and can't wait to see how the Eduard PE Set works out. Happy building! :)

Hi Gonzo,

I have the interior set and it looks great. The lid will be closed on my kit so I am not going to lose myself in fiddly bits.

In the process of doing the cockpit, preparing for painting.

As we speak ;)

DW-Q is in the Eagle Cals set, rather than DW-K

http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/EAG32157

haven't done too much research on that one, but the undersides are black / sky i think (not white), with no underwing roundels

could be wrong though, and I don't have the EagleCals set

usual 'defer to Edgar' rider etc etc!

Spitfire undersides:-
Silver until 27-1-39, then:-
black/white wings (rest silver, or supposed to be) until 15-5-40:-
red/white/blue roundels added (to fill available space, so similar size to top roundels) until 4-6-40:-
yellow ring added, but not to encroach on ailerons or hinges, until 6-6-40:-
all Sky underneath, no roundels, but delayed until 12-6-40, due to lack of paint.
Some units again added roundels, off their own bat, but there was no official sanction to that, just an official blind eye, until 27-11-40:-
black port wing added, plus roundels, with port roundel surrounded by yellow, plus Sky tail band and spinner; delayed 28-11-40, until 12-12-40, when A.M.O issued.
Simple, really.

Thanks Edgar,

As you say, simple.

Like being good at maths.

Hmmm,   ;)

Am I correct that the earlier drum type voltage regulator was used on the Mk I and II?

At least I have changed mine.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just got mine yesterday. What a beauty! I also got the HGW Sutton harness and the Airscale WW2 RAF Instrument Decals. I will be diving into this next after I finish the excellent Bf-109G6 kit from Revell with the Alley Cat resin upgrades. Thank you Revell of Germany, you come through again, at a very reasonable price! Tamiyagawa take notice. You are being beaten at your own game.

Finally an update ( pics to follow later)

This kit seems to burn me out. Had a week without motivation to do any work on it. Finally forced myself to

Spray the interior parts green a few days ago. This evening the aluminium rear fuselage behind frame II was painted. The Eduard

Interior set is next but will do not much to spruce the cockpit up. The hood will be closed anyway. The instrument

panel and seat belts are the most useful here. Time to speed things up. Oh how i am anticipating the Lancaster

Thanks for the heads up. Yesterday I drilled/opened up the flashed lighting holes in the bulkheads and started the cockpit floor. As beautiful as the details are on the parts, there sure seems to be a lot of flash, considering that these are new molds.
