NOVAModeler
Hi guys, I need to paint my P-51's ammo but don't have any gold paint. What can I use to "make" gold? (Sounds great!) Or is there another color mix that is commonly used to paint casings etc.? Thanks!
Jamme
I should paint it with a good "Gold" color (MM). When dry, a little wash and the a light dry brush with a lighter shade of gold. Or another way is to paint mat black and when dry a brushing with "Rose" gold powder. Hopes it helps. Cheers, Jamme
NOVAModeler
I have already painted the interior green of the plate behind the ammo lying in the wing, with Tamiya acrylic. Enamel won't work on top right? I suppose I could go find Citadel Gold paint too. Thanks!
Jamme
I think if you use enamel paint but not too "wet" you will not have problems. Cheers, Jamme
Heinz Bar
Testors makes a brass color you can get most anyhere.
benjaminsummerfield
I wonder if yellow mixed into a silver would make a gold colour? Citadel/ games workshop do several gold colours that would look great on bullet casings, you can put enamel over acrylic (think of it as oil floats on water) but not acrylic over enamel.
NOVAModeler
Thanks - now I have a lot of ammo for my ammo!
Grant
I saw a tremendous technique once where someone used Tamiya clear yellow over aluminium or silver. I've been dying to try it. It really was very convincing, a great representation of brass.
Grant
It was so convincing I was certain I was having my leg pulled but no .... that's how it was done. In fact, it was by Pfuf who's become a member of here I believe: I'm sure Johan wouldn't mind me posting a picture of the finished aircraft. I couldn't find the WIP but check out the "brass" radiator ring and bear in mind it's been dulled down and weathered as well.
NOVAModeler
That yellow brass looks great. Just like ammo brass. I will try that next time.

sparbucks
Don't forget the Alclad range - their Polished Brass is great, as is their Copper! Peter
Paulster
but an ammo belt is easier painten with a "fire and forget" paint. Just my 5 Cents Duuudde.......making way too much sense. Knock it off.
mikec
Greetings Guys; Sounds interesting ....... This may look good on the radiator of the SE-5. Nice looking color for brass, also it looks to be lightly weathered ................... Mike
General
I've saved on gold/copper/brass paint for yrs, by tinting silver with various yellows/oranges/reds/browns. Otherwise the gold/copper/brass paint dries out long before I've used a third. You can also vary the tones for more character and interest.
