Padubon Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Gents, I have been wanting to build a F-4E Kurnass using the 1/32 Tamiya kit and I think I had everything I need to do. The reason why I keep stalling on the project is the absolutely terrible intakes that Tamiya engineered on this model. I bought a set of Rhino Model works seamless intakes but I do not like the way they fit. I decided that I was going to try to use the kit’s parts and see if I can make it work. This is the Rhino's resin intake. And this is the kit's intake pieces. The inside has been puttied and sanded as smooth as I can possibly do it. I will get rid of those huge gaps. This is how I am planning to install the intakes to the fuselage. I hope it works.
Wingco57 Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Will you be using Milliput or a similar filler to smooth out those huge steps? Cees
Padubon Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 As soon as I am able to find my Milliput that is what I'll use. 1
Wingco57 Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 And Milliput white being the correct colour too so would make a huge improvement on those intakes.
mgbgtv8steve Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Looks like you're making a good job of the instal! Look forward to seeing more.
Padubon Posted August 26, 2016 Author Posted August 26, 2016 I really hope it works, I do not like the resin intakes and I do not want to me forced to use them.
Padubon Posted December 26, 2016 Author Posted December 26, 2016 Gentlemen, I need your opinions about the finished product. I must chose between this or the aftermarket intakes shown above. Thank you. 1
Wingco57 Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Well it definately looks very much better. How did you manage to smooth things out, using a wet finger? Cees
Padubon Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 Hello Cees, I did smooth the milliput with a wet finger, then a couple applications of Tamiya grey putty.
Mark 'ozzy' Ostler Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Hello Cees, I did smooth the milliput with a wet finger, then a couple applications of Tamiya grey putty.
Mark 'ozzy' Ostler Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Nice work Padubon, it's not like tamiya to leave a fundamental issue in one of their kits. Top job on the correction work. Oz
