Guest DannyVM
Hi Guy's, like the title said it, i decided to restart my P-51D Mustang on which i started 3 years ago. This little friend was put aside for my first ever WNW build, the Roland D.VIa. Now, after my well know battle with the Italeri Starfighter, which ended in disaster, i decided to put this little fellow back to the workbench instead of starting something completely new. At the moment, this is how it look's, most of the cockpit area is painted with a little weathering added. From here i will start again. Guest DannyVM
Hi guy's, time for my first real time update of this very beautiful kit. This Tamiya Mustang was in fact my second 1/32 Tamiya build after the splendid Spitfire. First thing to do, was to strip the paint of from the floor part. The floor had to be partial wood, so i chosed the wrong color for this. Instead i painted the floor completely with interior green. The part in the wrong color. After stripping the paint of. To be sure i painted the part with Mr. Surfacer 1500 black primer. In this way the fuel cells already received at the same time their black color. After this was done, it was time to put the right colors onto the part. With some masking, some patience and some guts i started with the airbrush session. I think i can say the end result is fairly better then before. The radio stack was partial updated with some wiring, made from copper wire and lead wire. Also i dry-fitted the part onto the two fuselage half's, but like i expected it fits like a glove. I have to admit, my two previous projects ( WNW Roland D.VIa and Harry Tate) gave me the opportunity to explore the wood grain techniques used for replicating wood. I made my own mixtures and use my own technique to do that on my Mustang build. For now, the next step is to place all the cockpit stencils and placards, also some dials need to be added. The IP was already done 3 years ago, today i added a dry-brush and a gloss coat, prior to place the stencils onto the IP. The flash of the camera put the dry-brush in a very obvious perspective, in real time it's much more subtle. Greetz Danny

Wingco57
Indeed and the fun part of restarting an old build is that you have a headstart regarding the cockpit.

Guest DannyVM
Hey Guy's, It's bin a while, but at the moment i'm out of bussines due to 5 broken ribs. So no modeling at the moment for me. Still i have some photo's of my previous progress i made on my P-51D Mustang. The cockpit is at the moment installed into the fuselage, before i glued it, i added a wash to the whole area of the cockpit. URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2496_zpsucvm7tdw.jpg.html] URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2499_zpswnbcxnpv.jpg.html] All is still shiny, the wash wasn't completly dry. URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2500_zpsgmqbqqem.jpg.html] URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2503_zpspfij8vyb.jpg.html] Meanwhile ordered some extra goodies. URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2924_zpsnzj7epsw.jpg.html] To mask the cockpit glazing, windshield, canopy and bulletproof windshield i ordered Montex masks. They provide masks for the out and inside of the cockpit. First thing to mask is the bulletproof windshield. URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2927_zpssywuvlrn.jpg.html] Finaly, the two fuselage half's where closed around the cockpit. The engine will not be seen, but i still decided to install him. URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2928_zpsr5flmhjb.jpg.html] Also the K-14A gunsight was mounted into the cockpit. After that, the cockpit and radiator/oil cooler duct assembly where glued between the two fuselage half's. URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2929_zpse37zb7fb.jpg.html] URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2930_zps0x96jtun.jpg.html] Everything fit's like a glove, but still there some need of careful trimming of the part's. URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2937_zpss03hk2ny.jpg.html] The APS-13 tail warning radar. URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2933_zpsk4bwik45.jpg.html] And finally the securing of the engine. URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2934_zpsfuhvqat0.jpg.html] URL=http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN2936_zpsvitzqhng.jpg.html] So where finaly up to date, for now, i'm still eager to get back to my workbench, but first i need a full recovery before i can think about modeling. Guest DannyVM
Hi Guy's, long time ago i id some work on the Tamiya P-51D ......a month ago i got a stupid accident that keepend me away from the workbench, but since a couple of day's i'm back Some thing's where already finished, like the landing gear. And the wheelbay The wheels of the landing gear are Eduard Brassin. The wheelbay will be kept fairly basic, just some wiring at places that are visible. The tailwheel painted. When dry-fitted you know that you are busy with a Tamiya kit. Landing gear is painted with Alclad II aluminium. Wheels are finished with pigments. Like i said, wheels are done with pigments, first i secured them with MIG thinner for washes, after that i put some changes, and fixed the pigments with MIG pigment fixer. The wing parts gives the whole wing it's characteristic form, again, all fit's very well. Ailerons and flaps parts are glued. For the flaps i used some Eduard pe. When i dry-fitted the wing onto the fuselage, again it was obvious that Tamiya kit's are just quality. Greetz Danny
