  1. Thanks Kai! The fuselage is finally together permanently! Still got a huuuuuuuge amount of work to do though! Tail surfaces are just sitting in position at the moment. Still a long way off joining them on for good! More to come soon! Craig
  2. That cockpit is gorgeous Peter! As always your modelling and photography skills are impeccable Craig
  3. Man all that 3D printed stuff is hectic! I didn't know there was such an extensive set available. Looking forward to seeing it all come together. Cheers, Craig
  4. Nice one John! I do love the P-39 and can't wait to build one someday..... Craig
  5. Thanks Harv! Thanks Peter! I'm really stoked with how it's coming along now. Can't wait to start laying some metal panels down Craig
  6. Thanks guys! The last of the internal details is now in prior to closing up. As you can see everything is a bit dusty, so I need to go through and do a bit of cleaning before I join the halves for good! I'll let the pics do the talking... Till next time! Craig
  7. Now this is different! Great work Looking forward to more Craig
  8. I love following your builds Peter, count me in!!! Craig
  9. Thanks Peter! It's funny how you don't realise how much your hands shake until you do something like this 😆 Thanks Harv! Cheers Kai, was certainly a skill tester! A little more on the cockpit before I move back to the nose for more or less the final details in the fuselage prior to closing it up. A prominent feature in the cockpit was the feathering controls and warning light panel which sits above the main instrument panel. A bit of fun to make, but it can be seen at the very front of the windshield so worth the effort. And the back.. I'm working on the bombardier's control levers now and a few other bits in the nose, more pics to follow soon! Cheers, Craig
  10. Congratulations Kai!!! What a wonderful result. Flawless work down to the last detail. What's next on the list? Craig
  11. I'm back into the cockpit! To be fair I've been avoiding this area for a while, as when I did the reconstruction work on the nose, I kind of "painted myself into a corner" by adding the seats and roof lining probably far too early in the build. This then meant that to add the RH cockpit sidewalls, control columns and throttle levers, was as close I I'll probably ever get to building a ship in a bottle! 😱 This is an old photo, but this is the gap I had to fill with a panel, and this was the side I had to get it in from! So with everything crossed and holding my breath, I not only got a piece test fitted in there to work out the right dimensions, but also managed to stick the completed piece back in, and straight at that! With that trickiness out of the way, the addition of the footrests and table seemed dead easy... Not too much more to add to the cockpit, just the instrument panel coaming and feathering buttons and a few other bits and pieces. Getting closer all the time! Cheers, Craig
  12. Thank you Kai! Almost as good as that mirage of yours hey? 😉 Thanks Peter! You should definitely try making your own if you haven't before, it's easy as! Definitely not to professional standards, but they certainly can bring little pieces to life.... Just got to try some white lettering on black backgrounds now! Cheers, Craig
  13. Thanks Gazza! I just did a google search for free USAAC stencils fonts, then imported that into word and printed (standard inket printer) them on clear decal paper, sealed with tamiya clear flat. They work really well and you can find numbers there too. I takes a bit of searching to work out the "point size" conversion to mm but it's pretty straight forward, and gives you flexibility to add specific lettering to your model. I've got white decal paper too, but have yet to play with coloured decals. Another very simple tool that anyone can use! Craig
  14. No worries at all, glad you found it! Certainly hope you start it then More work on the rear fuselage area. I've pretty much done everything I need to now before I move back to the cockpit to finish detailing there. The all important loo roll was added beside the toilet, along with the gunner's seat, microphones and intercom and some decal lettering for a bit more detail.... Only got the waist windows to put in. These will be on the floor or cabin sides so don't need a whole lot of work, just some light polishing and framing. Then finally back to the cockpit and nose, then not too long till I button up this beast once and for all!!!! 🥳🥳🥳 Cheers, Craig
  15. Thanks Kai! Can't wait to get the fuselage closed up and onto the skin panels
  16. Thanks as always for your words of encouragement Peter!
  17. Awesome work Kai! I really love the colour coding on the hydraulic lines in the wheel bays Looking superb my friend. Craig
  18. You learn something new every day hey! Thanks Peter! Definitely learning as I go More in the back end. This time efforts were mainly focused around the guns. Getting closer to closing up for good! Cheers, Craig
  19. Thanks Bryan! It's been quite the learning curve and metal can be a difficult beast to tame at times, but it certainly adds a whole new dimension to building. Craig
  20. Thanks Wolf! but you know I'm not sure you couldn't...... I've seen those spectacular little latches and things you conjure up.... puts me to shame! Thanks Peter! always trying to get better at taming transparencies, but I feel like I'm slowly learning Thanks so much Kai! Thanks mate! Thanks Harv! Lol! Love it Martin! I suppose I owe you guys a few more photos after all that praise..... I've been working on the miscellaneous equipment in the rear fuselage... with the big, teardrop shaped waist windows, you can actually see quite a lot so the effort is justified Firstly, one of the most important parts of the plane.... the toilet. Then came the boarding ladder and engine work platforms. I suspect these would have been ditched pretty quick in the field, but they add some nice, if complex detail to the rear end... And all painted up.... Bit of a juggling act to get everything sitting where it's supposed to be and still make sure the fuselage closes properly..... View from the waist positions looking aft... And looking forward with the boarding ladder in position. Thinking about it I probably should have left it free to place next to the entry door once the thing is finished, but then there'd be a weird empty space on the wall! And looking through the cabin door... That's it for now, should be getting pretty close to doing some gun mounts in the future. Slowly ticking off all the little details that need adding prior to closing her up for good! Cheers, Craig
  21. A little update. Minor but nonetheless important. It became apparent to me that I'd need to sort out my missing radio room windows and the window directly opposite the rear cabin door. Luckily I'd had similar experiences with creating the nose windows by gluing in a thick piece of acrylic and then sanding back to make the outside flush. After that was the time consuming process of polishing them back to a nice clear finish. Pretty happy with the result! As I said, not a very big step, but just one more necessary job in the lead up to those fuselage halves being permanently joined! Cheers, Craig
