Well as promised the paint shop crew delivered the Lysander ready for decals and weathering. I really like this Flory wash! The top outboard wing has had the wash installed and I've wiped away to the level of weathering I want. The panel lines popped and I even achieved a faded look! -

I'll have to try that Mike as the nail polish remover was making me a but nervous around the plastic!! -
Looking forward to using my new Flory Wash to highlight panel lines on future builds!!

The Lysander returned to the paint shop where the crew masked and painted the upper wing and fuselage camouflage scheme With Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green and XF-22RLM Grey. The paint shop crew boss emailed me today saying they were preparing to spary a coat of Future and I would have in back for decals and weather later this evening!! -

Thanks Erik I saw the two post and contacted James but he's so busy with his builds, lol!! I'm looking forward to the build. Arno and I are each building the kit with aftermarket cockpits over Skype! He's in Switzerland and I'm in Atlanta Georgia!! Should be great fun! -
I agree with Johnathan! Your craftsmanship is inspiring to say the least Arno as it does inspire me to challenge myself with each build! You nailed the prop right down to the boot dents!! By the way how did you do the dents??

The Lysander was transferred down to the paint shop earlier yesterday morning. When I was last down there the paint shop crew had primed the aircraft with good old rattle can primer and had just finished spraying the Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black underbelly surfaces! -

Grant I laid down Tamiya Tape on either side of the seams, brushed on Mr Surface 1000, let stand for a miute or so and then using a Q-Tip dipped in the remover and wiped away the access. Finally after a few more minutes I removed the tape and buffed with a sanding square. I did a test on the plastic before beginning! The technique worked great and saved hours of sanding!! -

Thanks to a newly realized skill of using fingernail polish remover to remove excess filler on seam lines I was able to fly through the fuselage seam work and install the underbelly storage pod on the Lysander yesterday. Now it’s really looking ungainly, lol!! -

Lysander on display at the Udvar Hazy. In looking at the Lysander on display in the Udvar Hazy I noticed two intake ports mounted inside each side of the engine cowlings. I also noticed that the molded model carb scoop on the belly of the engine cowling had no hole or scoop cowing! So I got out my styrene tubing and did a bit of scratch building! I also fashioned support cross bars and aiming sight to the back of the otherwise featureless instrument panel to add some interest when looking through the canopy! The finished instrument panel! -

Removed the Lysander from the gluing jig yesterday and began assembling the engine and landing gear. Note on the Lysander main landing gear: Matchbox/Revell's engineering/design of the main landing gear was very poor. The tabs fitting the gear to the fuselage are much to small and there is no support backing inside the fuselage itself! Also the gear is molded in four oddly shaped parts. I believe two would have been better. Oh well a bit of filler and some shaping will see the day, lol!!
