    Guys, Call me liberal minded here, but to me, the whole idea of a group build is to actually build. The first hurdle being to get people to actually build, and the second hurdle is getting people to actually complete their builds. I’m the WORST of the bunch here. My Mig-29 is literally a canopy and static discharge RS away from completion…. So, even though we all make noises about scale, etc, I’m MUCH more interested in having people build, mingle, a d above all, have fun with little to no stress. All we (as is all of us on this thread have decided), is that it is water themed. A T-2 Buckeye is cool, as is a fictional submersible, or an ocean liner. I’m going to break out the Lukgraph resin, but NOT till my Helldiver is complete, which should be by the end of November, God willing.

    PCM kits are one of those lines that just got better with later releases. I built the short nose 190 and the cowl required copious amounts of sanding stick use. This looks relatively painless.

    NICE! Great choice, Peter. This will be my next build as well, assuming I have time before the Wet Work begins in December. My goal is to build one from each Sqn, plus a true RAF version. I’m glad you looked into the colors, because I’ve always thought that they would be factory painted using standard RAF specs. I don’t know if you did or not, but I recommend the EagleCals AVG sheet for this build. Some colors on the GWH sheet are apparently slightly off. Plus, consider the Quinta 3D decals for the interior. I have a couple sets and they’re amazing. They are in stock at Sprue Brothers.

    I’ve been pretty scarce to the bench lately, BUT I had a chance last night and this afternoon to do some smoothing of the wing to fuselage join. Much sanding and rescribing ahead. and it’s nice to not update my build for a week and when I look for it, it’s three pages back!

    You’re sure turning this into a masterpiece. There were several close ups up you took that showed a lot of soft, vague detail, but your refinements and detailing have brought it to life. Beautiful work so far!

    Sometimes it’s worth digging back through the archives.. There are a lot of STELLAR builds buried way, way back in time. I missed this one as well.

    Weren’t the wings clipped on the original? Definitely NOT on the 2022 version.

    I’d expect that yes, the fuselage fuel tank was removed. Or at least inop. That think killed many young guns back in the day, mostly from stall/spin accidents, but it was absolutely needed to extend the range enough to get to Berlin and allow at least some loiter time.

    Hey, no biggie, and it looks good the way it is!!! Its certainly one of the most famous of all race schemes. I’d LOVE to see some Cobras get dolled up in old schemes and go racing. Even a Spitfire would be cool, even if it wasn’t competitive compared to the highly refined airframes needed to compete today.

    Well it’s all over the web and warbird new. The restored aircraft was repainted to honor the Bardahl Special to compete in the 2022 races

    Hey John. GREAT BUILD so far! I just found this out literally 10 minutes ago, so I immediately came here to tell you. This airframe was given a full restoration back to original factory specs 10 years or so ago. So the cockpit should be in wartime specs, as in green, etc. The exterior was painted as the Bardahl Special for the 2022 races, but everything else remained as it was. I know you’re pouring your heart into this one, and trust me, if I’d have known earlier, I’d have said something earlier. This IS a scheme I’d like to build down the road, SO, OF you want to redo the interior as it should be, I’ll swap you an unbuilt cockpit for your racer cockpit. It’ll set your build back a few days, but at least it’ll be right for the 2022 version. Ernie

    I have the first edition Hs-129, and it seems much simpler than other kits of theirs. BUT, they used tan plastic in the kit. NOT my first choice

    The oNly person I know who routinely builds exposed engines fully and completely detailed, is Wolf. And possibly Karim and Chuck. Las names not necessary, everyone here knows them personally, along with their work. Personally, I’m not a fan of building wired and plumbed engines: too tedious for this hombre. I don’t think Wolf even attempts to close the cowls on his Spitfie… Great review so far, Carl. I’m truly in awe of this kit and how you’re executing this build.

    Funny, because when I build ZM I’m looking what I can actually leave OFF the build that won’t affect the build itself. I expect this’ll be the same thing with mine when I tackle it. Just enough basics to make sure everything closes up nice and straight.

    One teeny step past a Corsair. A much better aircraft in some respects, but inferior in others. Great rescue, John, and a nice finish as well!

    This is looking good, Carl. It seems like a lot of effort for a simple little 109, but that’s how ZM does them. Built from the inside out.
