I´m thinking the same like Carl, Xtreme Metal colors are more durable than Alclads, but I wouldn´t trust them as a base for extensive masking. But what´s even worse is the Xtreme Metal black base. I had only bad results with this stuff. sticky forever and just a bad base and possibly the cause for your bad results with the NMF. I would strip the stuff, using thinner and start from the beginning. I binned my Xtreme black base and use Tamiya LP gloss black instead, which is perfect for the job, sprays well, dries fast and is durable and truly high gloss. I thin it with 2/3 of leveling thinner.
Cheers Rob
Thanks Rob, I think it was the black base that caused some of the problems in the first place. The only masking to be done are the invasion stripes, ZM include those as decals so could go that route. Not sure if the Xtreme thinner will effect the plastic, I’ll have to try a section. The fail safe is I guess is Vallejo…….

That's an interesting question. I think if you're not using something hot, then you should be okay. But, most of these metal paints don't take well to masking so that could be an issue. You might get some paint lifting if any significant masking is required.
I reckon the Xtracolour enamel maybe a little hot for it, maybe Vallejo is the answer……..

Yup, life always seems to get in the way and some mighty awesome work on your Eduard Profi Zero ... The office looks tremendous. Surely going to be a beauty.
Thanks Peter, I haven’t added any AM all came OOB…..

Time to start some armour again. With P51D , Mosquito and A6M2 Zero in the booth a person always need a build also happening. Having built the Flammpanzerwagen half track, wanted to have another half track in the collection.
Borrowed form PMMS -The 2cm Flakvierling 38 auf Selbstfahrlafette Sd.Kfz.7/1 resulted from combining the 2cm Flakvierling 38 with four Flak38 guns to the Sd.Kfz.7 half-track to allow greater mobility and firepower with the Sd.Kfz.7/1 carrying 600 2cm rounds on board and a further 1800 rounds in the towed Sd.Ah.56 trailer. The initial Sd.Kfz.7/1 had the Flakvierling 38 mounted on a central pivot mounting with later vehicles using the standard Flakvierling ground mounting secured by rachets on the rear bed. The later versions also included an armoured cab to better protect the crews.
This is a stunning kit of 380 odd parts and Magic Tracks, the mouldings are very fine details. The only AM I’m adding is the Master brass barrels. This is where I am……

Having put this on the shelf awhile ago it’s time to finish this. The reason it went on the SOD was I tried to spray AK Xtreme metals and failed miserably. The finish was grainy and just didn’t look good. All my own fault, just didn’t get it right. Anyway, sanded the whole model down and have chosen a scheme that doesn’t have lots of exposed NMF. The question is having put Xtreme black abase and then Xtreme metal over the top, could I use either Xtracolour enamels or Vallejo Model Air over the top. My reasoning is the Xyptreme have been on there for 2 years + so maybe not effect the next coat? Just do want another disaster. Would be interested in your thoughts.

Well guys it’s been awhile, with bereavement, project deadlines, clients being PITA’s and life, some reasons for being MIA.
Just an update, Mossie , I’ve posted that in the WIP. As for other stuff happening, with the Mossie in the spray shop I snuck in this.
Lots of PE and a busy cockpit……now ready for the spray booth
Well recommend this but get the magnifier out the whole wingspan is the same as one Mossie wing from tip to wing root…….

Does it really work Phil? I had the Molotow chrome pens and they worked only in recesses, like the headlights of my Ford GT II build. On landing gear oleos, they completely failed. If the AK pens are better, I would give them a try.
Cheers Rob
Rob, I tried it on a very thin bomb bay door jack and it was perfect. Just three strokes it covered and look instantly mirrored……

Looking at this build makes me want to do another Tamiya Mossie. A really great kit!
You should John, comparing the Mossie and HKM Havoc for basically the same money here in the UK, I know which one I’d rather have for engineering, fit and detail……….Mossie every time……

Mighty awesome progress and your Mossie is looking brilliant. I used the kits 20mm chutes and yours blows them away. I'm not sure they were available when I built mine, but I sure wish they did.
Thanks Peter, the chutes are amazing for being cast resin. Not sure why Tamiya didn’t add the detail on the kit parts……..

The Mossie looks great Phil. I can't recall if you're going to leave it with the panels off or not?
Thanks Carl, going to try and make it so all the panels can be posed both ways .

Looking really good Phil! Lots of fiddly bits, etc but well worth it in the end.
Thanks John, there are a lot of minuscule parts to complete and paint but great fun. Not sure why people say this a mojo killer. Only started this 1st July after the GB and it’s the fastest I’ve built also with the lack of bench time…..

Bench time this month has equated to less than an hour ☹️. Life , work and the the rugby World Cup has taken its toll on time…….anyway, the Mossie box is getting a little light. The build so far, nacelles, u/c, wing all connected. Need to check fuselage seams before carrying on……..the Barracuda 20mm chutes are amazing……

Rob, absolutely stunning congrats. I’m going to invest after your suggestion using Tamiya LP gloss black instead of Xtreme Black base. I may even re-spray the 51???????

Thank you
Yes Fruil tracks used in this build. Added headlight and smoke laucher cables. Fire extinguisher decal taken from some old project. Added chaing to towhook.
The tracks look amazing, AM tracks are now as expensive as the kit in some cases. I do like Dragon Magic Tracks as with a bit of persuasion that can look as good as Fruil etc………did I read Fruil are closing?

Very accomplished indeed, the weathering is excellent. Are they Fruil tracks or similar………

During my absence I did kick on with the Mossie. It’s been primed, fettled and polished. Then I realised I didn’t like the dropped flaps. Luckily I’d put the rear nacelle cover panels on with PVA. Some scary surgery later, replaced support bars etc this is where I am. Now it’s ready to join the queue for the booth…..
