Don't you think, these signals were coded, Gary?

Cheers Rob

I imagine they were, Rob.  But who will know? I’ll have to find the size of the flags….   Perhaps they all won’t fit on one length of signal line.  The mainmast is probably only 170mm tall.  But I’m just guessing while on my morning break at work.

What's the deckchair looking thingy on the fore deck ? It is a ships boats cradle ?

Sorry, I missed this one.  I don’t know for sure.  I would think it’s some kind of radio receiver.  I have asked before at the model warship forum, and received no answer.  I sometimes get the feeling that that place is mostly habituated by talented elitist snobs who are too ‘busy’ to help the lessor informed.

Amazing detail work and I tip my hat for going more then the extra mile in searching out missing information: i.e: the Flags.

Yes, I completely agree about how our work looks in macro, under magnification and the biggest reason I try not to do macro images for my builds; while it shows all the detail, it always shows all the imperfections, beyond what the human eye capable of seeing. I've always felt work intended to be seen in macro or ultra closeup photographs and to look perfect, were most likely accomplished with ultra magnification and an incredible steady hand.

Thank you, Peter.  Once you commit yourself to a picture of a certain point in time, you’re kinda stuck looking for ways to make it look authentic.  I still have crew to put into their battle stations.  I put 86 guys on action stations on a destroyer build.  Thankfully most battleship men are below decks.

Some great work going on here, I have a fascination for warchips but I'm pretty sure I am not good enough to build them accurately.

Cheers

Thank you.  You only live once.  Don't let fear of failure inhibit your fascination for these great war machines.

Eduard has some 1/350 signal flags in PE or printed decal, but nothing German WWI.
I'm sure about coding, even in Napoleonic times flag communication was coded with false signals blended in and changing codes. To detect right or wrong signals, sometimes canons were fired or different colored flares were used, indicating which is which.

I spent an hour looking at articles about naval signal flags.  Such a long signal as mine wouldn't happen.  I can make my own flags out of cigarette paper just like I did on the schnellboot and Z-32  But I won't need so many.  It's a pretty interesting topic, but obviously everything I find is about the US or British navies.

I've actually been a memeber there for over a year...   but after my initial look, I wasn't building ships, so hadn't been back.
