Martinnfb Posted May 8 Posted May 8 We’re starting @KevinM, @Landlubber Mike this for fun, as long as it’s 210/410 series everything goes. Anybody can join us. Everyone is welcome, no pun intended. No pushing and shouting allowed, just kidding push and shout all you want. I started my yesterday, by assembling the wings and fabricating a set of new air intakes. Position lights were cut out and new lenses were created from UV curable resin. 5
Martinnfb Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 I also cut out the thick dipole of Funklande Gerät FuBi 2 , thinned the posts in order to install a new ones made of a thinner filaments. 5
Martinnfb Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 The nose has a whole bunch of issues, think egg-plane which the model is not I’m not going to recreate the teardrop shape , since I care about my sanity and would like to finish at some point, however some preliminary shaping to catch the glimpse of that funny look is necessary. 7
Martinnfb Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 I’m impressed how strong and fast is Tamiya quick setting glue. here is some work on the tail. Shortened by 2 mm, top leading edge needs some steeper angle. The original was heavily inspired by the B-29. The bottom needed some reshaping and thinning too. Not sure if worth it?, we shall see. 6
Martinnfb Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 Ok. Now I have to let it dry. 😝 some work on the resin wheels, now that I’m looking at them, I reckon the real value of the resin set is the tail wheel. Kit’s mains are actually really nice. 3
Martinnfb Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 As an afterthought I had to cut out the back wall in the wheel wells. slowly shaping the intakes, please ignore the paint. It’s just a temporary solution in order to get a better perception of shape. 8
KevinM Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Now my ProModeler kit Martin has the Eduard set included with enhance the pit for my build a bit.So you going for self-inflicted wounds with Rosie the Riveter. That's good cause the Blitzkrieg that Mike and I just received was a ...bit over whelming 2
Landlubber Mike Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Wow, great start Martin! You're really moving along! A little bummed to hear that the shape may be off on this kit, but it looks pretty darn close to bother trying to "fix" it. I pulled my two kits off the shelf last night to look at what I'm going to be getting myself into. For one I have the various CMK sets, and the other, the various Aires sets. Then for the two, I have a few things like the Master barrels and a bunch of decal sets. I'll try and get started this weekend. 2
Martinnfb Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Thank guys, I haven't but 1/48 scale for ages. It seems so small ,on the hind side it goes together fast.
Landlubber Mike Posted May 9 Posted May 9 I had the HpH 1/32 kit and that seemed really big! Though, I've mostly built 1/48 and 1/72 planes. Almost too big so I ended up selling it, especially since I had the two Pro Modeller kits. 1
Landlubber Mike Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Martin, quick question(s) for you. I see you scratched the position lights. Is there a benefit of doing them now before you paint the wings? And for the UV resin, do you need a special UV light to cure the resin? I've never used UV resin before so I'm curious on how you did them. For example, did you dye the resin red and separately green, then put the resin in place and cure it with UV light? Etc. Thanks in advance - I'm already learning a lot for this build! 1
Martinnfb Posted Tuesday at 11:00 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:00 PM The resin comes with a small UV light to cure it. Takes seconds of illumination and you can sand it. I approached it in the fast way. First, removal of the plastic lenses, then coloring the cut area with markers (sharpies) green/red, the application of resin blob, then sanding. Ten minutes tops. 1
belugawhaleman Posted yesterday at 03:26 AM Posted yesterday at 03:26 AM I've Been playing around with the UV resin......it's great for making headlights models .Apply Chrome silver then make a lens. Surface tension makes a great lenticular shape when you add the resin. Then, the UV light..I have one of the Dspiae UV flashlights...excellent Little light. I recently replaced the lens on a Mini cooper rally car.....really can't tell the difference. Cool stuff! I've also Used the stuff to fill gaps on resin figures...works well....And Fast! 2
