Martinnfb
Gentleman I picked up Hasegawa's F-104 C, Nice kit , however decals are old, yellowish and most likely cracked up. I am not much of a jet guy and have no idea what is presently available in terms of decals. What are my options? I really like the metal looks of classic sixties fighters.Like these ones below.
Martinnfb
Also do I need any extras to pick up shortcomings of this kit, if any?

BlrwestSiR
Victory Productions has a couple sheets for early Starfighters. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/VPD32006?result-token=lWJKD https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/VPD32007?result-token=lWJKD There's one with whitewall tires even. If the kit had been a G, you could have built an RCAF one. Lots of options there. Carl 2

HubertB
Not sure about AM, but one (usual) word of warning. The Aires cockpit is most likely too wide. For the Italeri kit, it was some 3mm+ too wide to fit ... Hubert

So I guess I do need an early set of wheels, nozzle, then delete the arresting hook and trim the stabilizers on fuel tanks. Is that all for early model Starf. ?
BlrwestSiR
Martin, if these wheels are any better than the Hasegawa ones, let me know. I can send you a set.
Martinnfb
Thank you kindly Carl, I just ordered a resin set. Is that Italeri "G"?
BlrwestSiR
No problem Martin. Yup, those are from the Italeri G kit. I've also got the D which I'm planning to build in RCAF markings.

BlrwestSiR
I think my parents may have been there but a bit later. They were both part of the Taiwanese Army as teens since Taiwan had conscription at the time.
Martinnfb
Wow, small world. Carl, do you think they would remember 104s buzzing by ?
BlrwestSiR
My dad told me they were in the underground tunnels that the Army had dug into the island. It was sort of like Gibraltar. Everyone was garrisonned underground due to the occasional shelling. I don't think he saw any of the 104s but I'll ask him next time. One of the things that they did on the island to pass time was there was some sort of factory that made tank shaped liquor bottles. You could only get them on the island. There's one at my parents' house. It looks like an M48 with really soft details.
