Bundeswehr Takom M47

Hello friends,

    It's been a good day for modelling.  I completed two kits and threw away their boxes...  a little ceremony I go through every time I finish a build.  Anyway...  it's a nice kit.  Probably comparable to Tamiya in fit and detail.  The Dolp metal figurines weren't the best, but at least they had the period uniform for 1955.

Congrats Gaz, you nailed the M-47, a rarely seen model in early Bundeswehr livery with figures. Speaking of them, I think they look great and add a nice contrast to the tank.
The richness of the colours in your natural light pics is great, with that deep and rich olive green. Were the copperish parts on the tracks to add even more contrast, or is that depicting the real thing?
I know, how good it feels to throw away the box of a finished kit, That and adding the spare parts to the big spares box seals it to me and then there is always the cleaning of the bench for the next kit.

Hi Rob,

      Thank you for the kind comments.  The color I sought is that of rust is only a few days old.  It came out a bit more orange than intended.  I used to serve in an M-109A3 battery.

Within a day of being scrubbed clean by dirt then hosed off, the tracks would start to rust.  They'd go through various orange shades until they finally became a rich brown rust color.  And when the machine started to move, you could hear the rust breaking in each joint and pin, making orange-ish dust which I tried to portray on the drive sprockets.  Where there was contact between wheels, guide horns, sprockets, and tracks, any rust would quickly yield the metal underneath.

Hi Gas, that rust shines a lot. Especially on clean vehicle. I would tone it down with a dark wash and a quick dust over, the way you did it on your outstanding Leo kit.

I hope < I am not being too harsh, it's a nice build, it just needs a wee touch up.
