  1. Interesting that. I’m paying very close attention to your build here, because what you show here will guild me and many others forward in the future.
  2. Andy, go ahead, put the pressure on! 😃. It’s a deceptively simple build, although as John showed, it’ll bite you in the backside if allowed. I’m presently shaping the 3D printed AM cockpit areas to fit without interference, and it’s quite the job: the kit parts are too wide to start with, and the AM parts are a touch wider as well. OK, I cheated a little bit and grabbed a second kit, so I can test the basic fit using the kit pit on an unaltered fuselage. Like all resin pits, you gotta sand off all moulded on locators and interior detail. So I can get the dimensions from the second fuselage, sand the kit pit to fit, then transfer those dimensions to the 3D resin, which is OH so brittle 🤬. Ask me how I know. There’s a lot of AM to fit in the fuselage, so it’s going to take much trial and error. I certainly wouldn’t put this much effort into many aircraft builds, but the Helldiver is one of my favorites, so it’ll get the full meal deal from me right to completion. Or until I booger it up, whichever comes first. Oh how I love Airscale stuff. Their gauges and placards are absolute works of art.
  3. By gum Kev, it’s great to hear from ya! Good to see some familiar names and faces again! I blew my back out a couple months back, so I’m moving a bit slower as the quacks work on me, but I’m getting there. I had to cancel my trip to the US Nats this year because of this, but on the flip side, I’m getting much more bench time now 🤣 As tempted as I am to jump into the Bordernuts Lanc, I’m intent on a few less spectacular builds first: Infinity Helldiver, HPH DC-3, Fisher Guppy conversion, and a Wingnuts D.Vll. I built a 32nd Lanc already so I’m not as so inclined as others may be right now. Our “All of Ukraine” group build will be a wrap in a bit, and we’ve had some decent enough participation, so just maybe we’ll look at something else in a bit. (Open to suggestions) Also, I do hold you personally responsible for the three teeth on my lower jaw that got knocked out after I viewed your build. Dentists ain’t cheap, and being I didn’t want to look like an NHL hockey player, I had to paaaaaay… 🤣
  4. Uh oh. What’s wrong with the canopy fit? The HK canopy was a drop on perfect fit.
  5. Haha yup. I’m feeling the need to break out the soldering iron, flux, and clothespins to do a bit of soldering. Gonna be fun. Not
  6. After watching John’s masterpiece come together, and with our Ukraine GB in its final days, I figured I would start this as John did, but using the superb Resin2Detail 3D printed upgrades as well as Infinity’s add on kits. So we’ll use: 1. Resin2Detail super detailed cockpit 2. Resin2Detail exhaust stubs 3. Resin2Detail wheels 4. Resin2Detail quick fix Wright R2600 5. Infinity Models open rear gunner position 6. Infinity Models open bomb bay 7. Infinity Models Positionable control surfaces 8. Infinity Models PE flap set 9. AirScale 1/32 USN WW2 instruments and placards 10. G Factor landing gear legs Not much has happened yet, although I’ve started painting some cockpit stuff
  7. Nice, nice, nice, Kev! The kit is sure stunning, but like you, I’m disappointed by the clear parts. FYI, you MAY wish to check out the 1/32 Lanc wheels offered by Barracuda Resin here in the US. The Border kit suffers the same fate as the HK kit: very poor wheels. The hubs have very, very sparse detail. The wheels were developed by Mike Swinburne for my postwar RCAF patrol bomber build, but one thing led to another, and Roy brought out a full line of Lanc wheels: both smooth tread for wartime Lancs, and the block tread for my build, PLUS, they’re available in multiple scales. Those wheels will fill in the only real weak spot on this kit. Oh, and what an entrance onto LSM! Welcome aboard. Regards, Ernie
  8. I’m kind of slow rolling this now, waiting for some oil paint smudging to dry. Nothing big here, just some minor dirt and grime in the corners and coves, and a bit of a general overlay to remove the shine and harshness of the freshly applied digital camo.
  9. I moved this to the correct sub forum, y’all.
  10. Yeah, me too. As exhibit A I point to my one and only attempt at figures painting: the crew for my Gotha. The look stoned and all have the thousand yard stare. Plus, it looks like the aircraft commander has a dueling scar. 😬
  11. If I find SNJ or Floquil silvers, I’ll be the FOCUS of the crime lab.
  12. Oh wow, this really looks the part! I sure wish SNJ silvers could still be got. Same with Floquil Old Silver. They were amazing paints.
  13. Since even before the forced demise of ModelMaster, my go-to paint of choice has always been Gunze lacquers and Mr Leveling Thinner used on every brand except Mission. I’ve had spotty luck with most of AK’s other products, but I may just have to give this a try. I’m loathe to try it on one of my big builds until I at least understand it’s properties. One thing I’ve been looking for is a solid replacement for ModelMaster’s US WW2 interior green shades, so I’ll look and see if AK makes one.
  14. I have to give you credit, Kevin. This kit has a love/hate relationship with me. I absolutely LOVE to hate it. But you’re whipping it into shape with great results.
  15. Carl, one of the things that’ll help people decide is that the Wingnut kit IS a WW2 era Lanc kit, whereas the HKM kit is more a Mk.X with postwar upgrades. A closer look at the Wingnut kit is needed. Someone here really needs to build one.
  16. Just a quick look at the LHS showed me a type of ZM style wing construction as well. I didn’t have long to look, as it was for sale and I wasn’t buying that one, but assuming it’s WNW quality, it should assemble well. But on the other hand, never ever discount the ChiComs ability to screw up a perfectly promising model kit. HobbyBoss B-24 and A-26, anyone? That A-26 is a disgrace
  17. Yeah, I’m not knocking the kit whatsoever. From what I saw, it’s probably the finest model aircraft ever offered for sale. And yes, many Lancs really had that stressed skin look to them (not oilcanning). But not all did, or at least, it was minimal. If I had posted this opinion elsewhere, I may have received much hate, but my opinion is an honest one from my point of view. If you have the funds to acquire one and will only build one in your entire life, this is most likely your kit. But if your funds are limited, or you will be building multiples of the Lanc, the HKM kit takes a backseat to nobody. It’s a VERY good kit as well. Plus, if you want to build a postwar Mk.X, the HKM kit will need minimal changes.
  18. Yes it looks truly trashy and beat up. Truly a beautiful work. Let’s wrap them up, and onward and upward. 😎
  19. I just had a chance to look this kit over, and what a kit! It’s amazing in every way and nay very well be the ultimate model of all time. HOWEVER Being that it’s easily twice the twice the model of the HK Lanc, is it twice the model? In my estimation, NO, it is NOT. It is a much more detailed model with the Wingnut bunch having done their homework, and it has a staggering amount of amazing detail, including the patchwork effect sometimes seen on stressed skin aircraft, (NOT oilcanning) but to me, the HKM Lanc is every bit as worthy a model. Yes,the HKM kit has a couple issues, mostly cockpit related, of which fixes are easily obtained or scratched, and yes, the HKM kit is modeled on a Canadian Mk.X that saw postwar service, (metal elevators and different chin scoops), but dollar for dollar I’d say the HKM Kit more than holds its own here. YMMV, but I’ve built the HKM kit and throughly enjoyed it, and I’ll build the new offering as well. But all that amazing detail will be hidden inside a fuselage, and that negates much of the attraction. Think about it: 300-350 dollars plus, say an extra 100 for seat, Airscale panel and Barracuda wheels, compared to the best part of $700 USD to your door. And I’m POSITIVE the Border kit will need some AM here and there. To me, that’s an easy decision. PS: one other thing. Border has included all types of options for this kit. Including a couple very well documented Aircraft: “Phantom of The Ruhr”, a Lanc B Mk. lll of 500 Sqn, circa 1944 ”Victorious Virgin” a late war Mk. X of 424 Sqn RCAF, and G for George, a Mk. lll in 1944. All well known Lancs with TONS of reference material available everywhere. Victorious Virgin, for example, used H2S radar. The cross section shows mo such radar on her. Matter of fact, no cross sectionals sho H2S installed, although it would have been easy enough to do. My question is, Is this a sign of us once again being forced to accept poor Chinese research into markings and equipment? I’m not going to say as much yet, but for 700 dollars, I’d sure appreciate a bit better research on markings. I have no doubt Border had to do plenty of work to finish the molds, but that’s life.
  20. John’s model factory, no doubt.. does awesome work, too.
  21. This is easily the most amazing build I have ever seen. Anywhere. Anyplace. Period. This Ukrainian gentleman has been working on this model since 2018, and the build thread is worth a complete read through, without missing a bit. I am truly flabbergasted https://modelshipworld.com/topic/19333-cruiser-varyag-1901-by-valeriy-v-scale-175/
  22. I’m non tech. I just texted Jeroen. I tried on my Apple ipad tablet. Hit add files and selected from my picture library. Posted no problem. As for drag and drop, I’ve never done that, do I dunno. Just for kicks, if you have a tablet or iPhone, try doing it in your area from your picture library.
  23. Hotter than a 2 dollar pistol, but yep, turned out well. I did have the Meteor boil over right at the end of the parade. I only keep an 8lb pressure cap on the radiator because I’d rather have it release than overpressure the old engine. We got us a rather impressive cloud of steam out both sides of the hood.🤣. An unplanned stop, but these old cars don’t do well idling around for half an hour in 107 degree heat. They like to run and have air moving through the radiator. My 4yr old niece screamed when the release valve went. 🤣
