  1. Here is a little trick I use to make weld beads on armor. First you need a piece of tubing cut halfway through and then you scallop the end. This one is used on a 1/6 sacle tank, so you can cut the end of an old paintbrush and accomplish the same in a smaller scale, but brass is my preferred choice. Secondly you need a two part epoxy putty, I use milliput, combine the two parts and roll it out like a snake. I keep a little tub of water close by to keep it moist. Then you place the putty on the joint and press it in. Using the tip of the tool allows you simulate the weld beads and it looks pretty convincing once painted and weathered. Keep in mind that the welds were far from perfect, so check your refrences. HTH, Rocky
  2. Chris, I use 1944 Militaria Paint on my 1/6 Tiger, the color is a spot on match. http://www.1944militaria.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ESP-GB I have decanted it for use on smaller scales. Nice job on the Tiger and don't forget the fiefels. Rocky
  3. I got you regarding the Master Barrels. I use them on my WWII builds and I could not be happier.
  4. Many thanks Sasho! The Roland does look good and I appreciate the AM tips. Thanks James. Martin, yes the guys here are top notch and I have already learned a few new tricks!
  5. I am going to break down and get a WNW kit. After seeing the quality of the kits and the great builds, I can no longer resist! I want to do a German aircraft that includes natural wood and lozenge, the Albatros seems to be the ticket. So I am curious what you guys recommend for the AM goodies and if the Albatros is a good kit to start with? I have done rigging before, albeit on the large scale Hasegawa museum kits. I am sure that turnbuckles and rigging will be a bit more tedious in 1/32, so I need some guidance....please. TIA, Rocky
  6. Paul, I am not sure about Michaels, but Hobby Lobby carried it at one time. Rocky
  7. Something you guys may want to try that I have been using for years, The Master http://www.dickblick.com/products/the-masters-brush-cleaner-and-preserver/ This stuff is outstanding and it's something figure painters swear by. Rocky
  8. My wife and I send our thoughts and prayers for Izabella.
  9. Excellent start, great attention to detail and welcome. Rocky
  10. Many thanks everyone! A small update today. I want to open up this butcher bird as musch as possible..... I added some internals and I still have to add some Evergreen strips to the horizontal ribs. The plate for the tank is too thick, but the dimensions are close. Nice view, yes? Thanks for looking in and the General says hello! Cheers Rocky
  11. You can get one at Hannats http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/HPH32004
  12. It looks like you carved it out of a block of wood, incredibly realistic!
  13. I was about to start the 1/24 Mossie but I decided to check my old and forgotten stash. The few kits that I opened, barely started and put back on the shelf in a closet. FW 190's have always been my favorite Luftwaffe subject and D9's and Ta-152's have always held my fascination. So I decided to resurrect the 1/24 Trumpy D-9. I know now why I put it down, the hinge line of the forward cowling is curved and it should be straight. Secondly, I wanted to detail the engine and open it up. Doing so would require modifying and making new parts for the front of the fuselage and I did'nt want to do that. Now I do! The panels are easy to remove and I could always recast them in resin, but I am thinking about something more realistic looking. So I started playing around with some brass sheet to see if I could potentially make the panels out of metal. Obviously, its pretty crude at this point, but I believe it can be done. Using Jerry Crandall's Dora Books and the other reference books I have, I believe metal panels, fully riveted and detailed would look very realistic. Of course making the piano hinges will be tedious, but the end result would be worth it. The good news is that they will not have to be perfect since they will be open. My subject will be.... Dora Red One Cheers
  14. I have these in my stash too, so I will follow with great interest. Here is a very nice build http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234930005-revell-arado-196-and-hph-catapult-in-132/
  15. Thanks Jamme! I placed the ordinance although it is not finished. I couldnt resist getting an idea of what it will look like. The gunpods are AMS and I sourced the rockeyes from a member at LSP. I should be done this weekend, fingers crossed.
  16. Thanks Dave! Thanks SMeek! I am inept when it comes to jets, with the exception of the cockpit, and the stencils drove me crazy. I do have a 1/32 F-4J in my stash with Black Bunny markings and I will build it at some point. Now it's either the ZM P-51 or the Airfix Mossie and I am leaning towards the Mossie.
