  1. Finished up. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/19301-f4u-1d-completed/
  2. Another Tamiya Corsair for the collection. VMF-351 off of USS Cape Glouchester escort carrier at Okinawa 1945. After market items are Barracudacast wheels and cockpit details. The FF51 decals are MicroScale and the one kill marking is from my decal stash. All the other decals are from the kit. Painted with MM GSB with a over spray with Alclad semi-flat. Quite a enjoyable build as are all the Tamiya Corsair kits! I hope y'all like the results of my efforts.

  4. Looking excellent Peter. Cockpit looks right on the mark!
  5. Pretty steep price but not totally unexpected. Thanks!
  6. I know what you mean Scott. The Tamiya Corsairs, followed by their's and Revell's P-51's, are about my favorites. I think the only thing that could make the Tamiya P-51's better is new wings with smoothed over rivets. That's where Revell's '51's are a little better.
  7. I know it will look great. Especially with the Quinta set. Those weren't around when I built mine.
  8. Thanks Gaz. I was a little bit apprehensive about doing that but, yes, it did work out pretty well.
  9. I think it's number 16 or 17 Scott. Birdcage, -1A and -1D.
  10. They sure do don't they Carl! At first I wasn't real sure I wanted to go that route but now I'm glad I did as I'm liking the way it's turning out.
  11. Got the little yellow stripes done. Lots of masking! Still a bit of touching up to do.
  12. Thanks Gaz. Yes, I was very tempted to use the decals but, as it's turned out, the masking/painting went well.
  13. I was undecided whether or not to paint the yellow stripes or use the decals. I think painting them is the right way to go though as they will look better than decals.
  14. Painting in process. Yellow stripes are next. The kit has decals for a/c # FF75 but I plan to do # FF51 which has a single kill marking.
  15. Thanks Gaz. After that ZM '109 and Hasegawa Oscar the Corsair is for sure a stress reliever for me. 🤪
  16. Easy peasy Frank. Just clip off the end of the rod going to the outboard wing flaps. It is usually the culprit and isn't seen when the build is completed anyway. I have at times had to thin down the main spars that insert into the outer wings to keep them from interfering with a easy fit (add a little petroleum jelly on 'em if they still won't slide in easily 🤪.)
